In this magazine cover, there are the names of other productions in the skyline. These are “MAD MEN”, “MR. HOLMES”, “ALIEN 5” and “LOST RIVER”. These are there to entice the reader into purchasing this product if they’re also interested in these things. The masthead shows the name of the magazine “EMPIRE”. This is to instantly catch the reader’s attention, as the long time fans of this particular magazine will be looking for the bold “EMPIRE” title. It’s eye catching and is instantly recognisable. This also takes up a large portion of the actual magazine cover, potentially showing that no matter how important the film or TV show is that they’re promoting, the actual title, and reputation of the magazine shouldn’t be looked down at, and should be the most important thing on there. On the left hand side you have the coverlines. This is showing a more in depth, potentially behind the scenes look at another popular production, “Game Of Thrones”. It states that there is a “30 page Game Of Thrones Spectacular” with interviews, secrets revealed, etc. This is appropriate here, as the film they’re promoting on their front cover of the magazine, is an adult film, and is adored by many people all over the world. This related production on the side could be seen as somewhat similar in its fanbase, as it’s mainly for adults, due to the graphic content it portrays. This is also watched by millions of teenagers, too; quickly becoming a cultural masterpiece. If the film being promoted was a more PG-rated film, then this would stand out, as it would contrast with the PG film being shown. This is grabbing the reader’s interest, as if they don’t like the film being shown, then they may still like this exclusive 30-page “Spectacular” that is in the magazine, and would be tempted to buy it. The actress on the main front cover of the film that is being advertised is also one of the leading actresses in Game Of Thrones. So if they like her, then they have more than one reason to purchase this magazine. The text under the main image shows the reader the title of the film very clearly, and very early on, as it’s in a big font, almost as big as the “EMPIRE” font. This is eye catching, as people can interpret words quicker than they can interpret pictures and other images. So if someone is taking a quick look over at the magazines, then they’ll see “TERMINATOR GENISYS” before they’ve even seen the picture, and could be drawn towards that. The explanatory text underneath this gives the reader a little more to be excited about, as it says how Emilia Clarke and “the new model Arnie” put the boot in. This could be a possible play-on-words as it’s a potential reboot of the classic “Terminator” film, as well as possibly just giving an example of their aggressive behaviour and attitudes. Then underneath this, at the very bottom of the poster, are more coverlines, stating how they have more interviews and possible sneak-peeks of other films and TV shows.

In this magazine cover, there is another production mentioned in the skyline. “Alien: Covenant”. The reason this is here is because this type of film is pretty similar in fan base to the people that would be attracted to this edition of Empire magazine. To emphasise the importance of this, they’ve even underlined it. The fans of the new Wonder Woman film will be stereotypically comic book nerds. They’ll be interested to see Wonder Woman finally get her own cinematic debut, after many years of being oppressed due to society’s patriarchal standards. These people that have been interested in the comics for a long time will be invested in this particular storyline, as it’ll be promoting women as powerful, independent beings, equal to men. The official release of this film will be popularised more by women who are backing this story, again supporting this idea that the glass ceiling is being broken after all of these years. The people that will be hardcore fans of this will possibly also be fans of “Alien: Covenant” and so will be more likely to purchase this particular product as it’ll contain things they like. Under this is the masthead, which is mainly all filled with the magazine’s logo, “EMPIRE”. This is so that people will be caught by this, and their attention will divert towards this magazine. It’s bold font assists the magazine in attracting more people to buy it, as things that are bigger, usually tend to be better. Just under the masthead, on the right, is a button. This is also superhero related, as it talks about Chris Pratt talking about the new “Guardians Of The Galaxy” film. This is already starting to set a theme on this magazine cover. You have something the fans of comic books may be interested in in the skyline, and now this information in the button. This will attract a wider audience, as superhero films; the Marvel Universe especially, is further increasing its ticket sales for the new films it pumps out every year. Even if the audience don’t like “Alien” or “Wonder Woman”, there’s a chance they’ll like “Guardians Of The Galaxy”, and if they’re die-hard fans, then they’ll purchase the magazine to see what was said. In the centre of the magazine is Wonder Woman. The hero to her own film. The beacon of change for all oppressed women. The symbol of hope for everyone that things will soon be fair and equal. She is seen in a powerful looking pose, as if shielding herself from some sort of danger. Despite this, she doesn’t look scared. She looks as though she’s welcoming this, an example of her bravery. The background to this is a very bright sort of palette. This could be to attract a younger audience, as little girls would want to pick this up as Wonder Woman could be seen as this role model that parents would want their children looking up to in this world of ever changing society. I feel as though this image alone has more ties with political correctness and political agendas more so than people think. There’s a reason why it’s taken this long for there to be a green-lit Wonder Woman film. And what better timing to release one than now, with feminism sweeping the globe. The explanatory text to the left of Wonder Woman also expresses this historic moment in the filming universe, as well as the DC universe. “WONDER WOMAN” can be seen in all capitals, with “WORLD EXCLUSIVE” and “Inside her 75-her quest to reach the big screen”. This magazine knows this is a big moment, so they’re presenting it as such. This magazine is also promoting a unity in comic book fans. “Wonder Woman” is property of DC. The button tells about “Guardians of the Galaxy” which is property of Marvel; rival comic

book company of DC. A little further down underneath the button in the additional things you’ll find in this magazine, “Iron Fist” can be seen. This is also a Marvel product. This also adds to the superhero film of this issue of this magazine.
