Project Notes
This draft for my module 5/final project will consist of refining
modules 3 and 4 into a full website redesign. Needed: document plan,
persona

Introduction
Companion Parrots Re-homed is a non-profit organization located in
Charlotte, NC. They specialize in the rehabilitation of injured and
abandoned parrots. Lacking any significant updates in the better part of a
decade, their website: http://www.companionparrots.org/ needs
rehabilitation of its own, see Figure 1.

Content Audit/Site Update – CompanionParrots.org
Statement of Purpose
Companion Parrots Re-homed wants a more interactive website that
will help capture traffic lost during coronavirus with the ability to perform
site updates on-demand.
Priorities
Parrots available for adoption – live inventory, finding new homes for
these parrots

Data Audit
When preparing for a complete site migration/update, it is essential to
inventory all assets, media, pages, and links. This helps lay the foundation
for the redesign and ensures no pages get left behind. The
CompanionParrots.org quantitative content audit is located in Table 2,
which spans the next three pages.

Recommendation
In addition to acknowledging that their site is out of date, Companion
Parrots Re-homed also requests a better way to update their site. Currently
written in PHP, each change request must be forwarded to the webmaster
for a monthly site update. I recommend a redesign in WordPress so the
10
client may perform inventory updates without the need for someone versed
in PHP. Additionally, I recommend WordPress due to the large amount of
community support for the platform.
11
I have put together a sample portfolio of clean and educational styled
website templates for the client – Companion Parrots Re-homed. I chose a
clean design that would be more mobile-responsive without the need for a
dedicated mobile site, see Figure 3. I also wish to present more content-rich
educational themes with child-like ethos if the client so wishes to exemplify
the educational aspect of their organization, see
http://www.companionparrots.org/index-content-education.htm and Figure
4.

Wireframe
One of the most important features the client asked for is updating
site content themselves. Working within the "blog-like" limitations of
WordPress, I found the Gutenberg editor the most likely candidate for ease
of use. While utilizing different themes within the WordPress editor allowed
me to quickly demonstrate the site's visual aspects, creating this wireframe,
see Figure 5, made it much easier to explain why individual blocks must be
located at specific points webpage.

Prototype
Having successfully explained the design constraints to the client, I
wanted to mock-up secondary page navigation. Utilizing lo-fi prototyping
techniques, secondary pages are available via "click" by turning the
notebook to the new page. This prototype shows a user navigating to the
secondary page "bird of the month" from the "home page." (See Figure 6).

Target
Having successfully explained the design plan to the client, I was able
to show a more complete visual representation of what the new site should
look like. Please note that this is only a representation of the website and
that there is no backend. (See Figure 7).
