6. BRIEF RESUME OF THE INTENDED WORK:

6.1 NEED FOR THE STUDY.

“The heart speaks from the vessels of every limb”.

……Ebers Papyrus.

Hypertension is one of the leading causes of death all over the world.

It is the term used to describe high blood pressure. Blood pressure is a

measurement of the force against the walls of your blood vessels as the

heart pumps blood through the body. When it’s too high, it raises the

heart’s workload and can cause serious damage to the arteries. Over time,

uncontrolled high blood pressure increases the risk of heart disease,

stroke, and kidney disease1.

High blood pressure is sometimes called a silent killer because it

may have no outward symptoms for years. Normal blood pressure

readings will fall 120/80mmHg. One will have high blood pressure if

reading is average 140/90mmHg or higher2.

Over 70% of cases of high blood pressure are related to emotional

problems arising out of stress. It is capable of causing great damage and

extreme physical suffering. Usually when an individual faces stressful

situation his body responds in a peculiar fashion. It begins to tense up and

the blood begins to rush to brain. This causes blood pressure to rise. It can

range from a feeling of unease at its mildest to a panic attack at the most

severe end of the spectrum3.

Epidemiological studies demonstrate that prevalence of

hypertension is increasing rapidly among Indian urban populations and

Page 4: €¦ · Web viewGrand master Choa , kok sui, Practical handbook for healing with color pranas, 327. Master Choa kok sui, textbook of pranic crystal healing, 147. Pranic healing Mysore.

using the current definitions more than two-fifth of the Indian urban

population has hypertension. Hypertension is readily responsible for 57%

of all stroke deaths and 24% of all coronary heart disease deaths. This

fact assumes importance because hypertension is a controllable disease

and a 2mmHg population wide decrease in blood pressure can prevent

1, 51,000 stroke and 1, 53,000 coronary heart disease death4.

The overall incidence of hypertension in India is estimated to be

66 million. At a conservative estimate there are 42 million hypertensive

in rural and 45 millions in urban population4.

It has been acknowledged that religious and complementary

therapies are commonly used in community settings in India. The human

magnet through its vital energy can be affected and get affected by

others5.

Pranic Healing is an ancient science and art of healing using vital

energy or 'Prana'. This Prana keeps the body alive and healthy function

properly.  The term "Pranic" originates from the Sanskrit word "Prana",

which denotes Pranic healing is a simple, yet powerful and effective no-

touch, no drug healing therapy. Only prana or energy is used to heal a

person. This method of healing was prevalent in ancient India, China &

Egypt6.

The Pranic Healer works on the energy body that surrounds and

interpenetrates the physical body, called the Aura. Pranic Healing uses

the Auric & chakra energies for both diagnosis and for healing. Healing is

accomplished by removing diseased energy from the patient’s energy

body and by transferring fresh energy to the affected areas. Pranic

Healing acts as a powerful catalyst to accelerate the body’s natural

Page 5: €¦ · Web viewGrand master Choa , kok sui, Practical handbook for healing with color pranas, 327. Master Choa kok sui, textbook of pranic crystal healing, 147. Pranic healing Mysore.

healing process. It is so simple and natural, that virtually nothing can go

wrong, and when done systematically and properly, there are no chances

of any adverse side effects. Despite its miraculous healing effects, Pranic

Healing is not intended to replace orthodox/allopathic medicine, but

rather to compliment i.e. vital energy or life force that keeps the body

alive and healthy6.

A multitude of factors play a role both in the maintenance of blood

pressure and also in the production of hypertension. Some of the well

known factors are the barn-receptor reflex, sympathetic and

parasympathetic tone, rennin-angiotensin, aldosterone system,

psychogenic factors, shift in the renal functioning, salt intake etc7.

Pranic healing induces a relaxed state. This in turn will reduce the

sympathetic tone. So any vasoconstriction produced due to an increase in

sympathetic tone would be abolished due to pranic healing. Proper

balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic tone could be

brought about, resulting in the reduction in blood pressure7.

In case of high Blood pressure the solar plexus and meng mein

energy centre which is located backside of navel are malfunctioning.

These energy centers are filled with used up energy. During a Pranic

healing session a healer carefully removes the used up energy from

affected energy centers and flicks them into a salt water solution. This is

termed as cleansing procedure. Salt has a capacity to disintegrate the

negative energy and water has a capacity to withhold the energy.

Therefore when a healer uses salt solution he disintegrates the negative

energy logged in the energy centre. It can be studied further and be useful

as a new and non-pharmacological approach to the healthy life8.

Hence, the researcher felt the need to assess the effectiveness of

pranic healing on the hypertensive people in selected areas of Raichur.

6.2 REVIEW OF LITERATURE:

A review of literature on the research topic makes the researcher

familiar with the existing studies and provides information which helps to

focus on a particular problem, lays a foundation upon which to base a

new knowledge. It creates accurate picture of the information found on

the subject.

A comparative study was conducted to determine the impact of

Pranic Healing on blood pressure among adults in selected hospitals at

Bangalore. Two groups consisted of 19 normal elderly people and

hypertensive people (already on treatment) were chosen for the study by

convenient sampling. Both groups were made to undergo Pranic Healing

on alternate days. The blood pressure and pulse rate of both the groups

were recorded before and after the commencement of healing. The results

of the study showed the average blood pressure of Group I was found to

be 149/85 mmHg before healing and 139/84 mmHg after healing whereas

that of Group II was found to be 156/95 mmHg before and 123/75 after

healing. The pulse rates were found to be 77 and 74 in groups I and II

respectively before healing and it was 74 and 75 after healing. The study

concluded that there was a reduction in diastolic and systolic scores with

pranic healing on patients9.

An experimental study was conducted to determine the

effectiveness of a yoga program on blood pressure and stress; a group of

hypertensive patients in Thailand were studied. The study concluded that

there was a significant decrease in mean stress scores and blood pressure,

heart rate, and mass index levels on patients10.

A comparative study was conducted to determine the impact of

mind body therapies (meditation, yoga and guided imagery techniques)

versus placebo in the treatment of hypertension among men and non-

pregnant women ( greater than 18 years of age). The study concluded that

mind-body therapies significantly reduced systolic blood pressure (SBP)

by a mean 11.52 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) by

6.83mmHg in the patients11.

An experimental study conducted at the University of Kentucky,

Lexington, united state, involving nine randomly selected hypertensive

patients proved that apart from having no side effects, the effects of

meditation on blood pressure lasted four months after the test. The kind

of meditation used to achieve these results was transcendental meditation.

It resulted in an approximate reduction of 4.7 mm systolic blood pressure

and 3.2 mm diastolic blood pressure12.

An experimental study was conducted to determine the impact of

pranic healing on the blood pressure and alpha EEG waves in human

volunteers attended shantikunj and Dev Sanskrit vishwavidayalaya,

Hardwar, Uttaranchal, India. They have taken 25 subjects, selected by

incidental sampling. Two tools were applied: first Alpha EEG

Biofeedback Instrument and second Blood Pressure Measurement

(Sphygmomanometer). The systolic Blood Pressure pre-test mean score

Page 8: €¦ · Web viewGrand master Choa , kok sui, Practical handbook for healing with color pranas, 327. Master Choa kok sui, textbook of pranic crystal healing, 147. Pranic healing Mysore.

was 138.96 ± 11.50 mmHg and post-test mean score was 128.4 ±6.89 mm

Hg. T-test score was 7.18. Diastolic Blood Pressure pre-test score mean

was 93.92 ± 10.27 mm Hg and post-test score mean was 85.84 ± 7.06 mm

Hg, T-test score was 6.90. The pre-test  mean score of alpha waves was

4.73 ± 2.16 Hz. and post-test mean score found 6.00 ± 2.44 Hz., T-test

score was 3.52 . The result was there were significant decrease in

diastolic and systolic blood pressure and increase in alpha waves with

pranic healing13.

An experimental study was conducted using randomized controlled

trials of aerobic or resistance exercise training conducted over a minimum

of 4 weeks where systolic and diastolic BP was measured among

hypertensive and normotensive participants. A total of 29 studies (1533

hypertensive and normotensive participants) were included, 26 used

aerobic exercise training, two trials used resistance training and one study

had both resistance and aerobic training groups. Aerobic exercise training

reduced systolic BP by 4.7 mmHg and diastolic BP by 3.1 mmHg. The

result was aerobic exercise training had a small but clinically significant

effect in reducing systolic and diastolic blood pressure14.
