Social Narrative for the
TDF Autism-Friendly Performance Of
Gershwin Theatre222 W 51 St, New York, NY 10019
I will go to the
Gershwin Theatre to see the show.
The theatre is located at
222 W 51st St, New York, NY 10019.
I may have to stand in line.
If I stand in line I will stay
with [insert name/s] and
try to be quiet.
Inside someone will tell us where to go. They are
called an Usher.
The Usher will scan my ticket so I can get into the
theatre.
I can use the bathroom or
get a drink of water at the
water fountain before I go
into the theatre.
I can take the escalator or use the stairs to get to my
seat.
I will go into the theatre.
The theatre is big.
There are a lot of seats in
the theatre!
I will hand my tickets to the Usher so they can
show me where my seats are.
The numbers on our tickets tell us where we have to sit. It is not a
choice.
The Usher will give us a
Playbill. A Playbill is a
book. I can look at the
Playbill with [insert
name/s].
The theatre will get dark
and quiet. I will try to be
quiet during the show so I
can hear everything.
I will see actors wearing
costumes walking on the
stage. The singers and
dancers may come close
to me. They are actors
wearing costumes and
makeup, like on
Halloween.
I will try to stay in my seat.
If I feel scared, I can cover
my ears, squeeze a fidget,
hold [insert name/s] hand,
or hug [insert name/s]
If the show is ever too loud
or too bright I can take a
break in one of the
Quiet/Activity Areas.
In those areas there are
bean bag chairs and mats
I can lay on.
Once I feel better I can go
back into the theatre to
enjoy the show!
After each song people
will clap.
Clapping tells the actors
you liked their song. If I
want to clap, I can.
If the clapping is too loud I
can ask a volunteer for ear
plugs or headphones to
help make it quieter.
There will be a break. This
is called intermission.
During the intermission
people will leave the
theatre to get a drink, eat
a snack or to use the
bathroom. I can leave
with [insert name/s] to get
a drink, eat a snack or use
the bathroom.
After the intermission
everyone will come into
the theatre and sit down in
their seats. The theatre
will get dark and quiet. I
will try to be quiet during
the show so I can hear
everything. The actors will
come on the stage and
finish Wicked.
After the show is over,
we’ll go out of the
Gershwin Theatre.
I am so excited to see
Wicked on Broadway!
