Futures Forum Summative Mr. Cowan
FHCI
You will be creating an on-line portfolio in Weebly for your summative. For this project you will compile a selection of existing projects and you will create new ones to be
included in the portfolio.
Website Layout:
You will create a new menu under your Weebly website with the following pages and sub-pages :
* A portion of your summative evaluation will be based on the overall appearance of your website*
1) English 2) Civics 3) Careers- Novel Analysis - “Make a Difference” - Business Plan - FFP Reflection Campaign - “Who Am I”
Part 1: English 1) Novel Analysis: For this part, you will be required to examine several elements related to your novel. You can demonstrate your knowledge in a number of ways: Power Point, Prezi, Time Toast, Weebly, or anything else you can think of. You will be presenting your analysis to the class so it should include a number of written and visual elements. Here is what you must focus on in terms of story elements:
a) Plot (discuss and/or illustrate the main plot points throughout).
Minimum of 10.b) Setting (identify the various settings) c) Characters (discuss the main and secondary characters)d) Conflicts (person vs. person, person vs. self, person vs. nature, etc.)e) Theme (Identify 1 or more themes that exist within your novel)
2) Reflective Piece on “Futures Forum”:
Your written reflective piece will be 1 page in length, double-spaced. It should address the following questions:a) How did you enjoy Futures Forum?b) What were some of the highlights for you? c) What frustrations did you encounter?d) What types of skills/knowledge did you take away from 1)English 2)Civics and 3)Careers?e) What would you do to improve the course for next yearf) What advice/information would you give to a grade 9 student looking to take Futures Forum next year?
Part 2: Civics “Change the World” 1) Research Paper: Step 1: Research An IssueChoose a global issue that Canadians should be concerned about. Outline the background information behind the issue. What are the causes of the issue? How have foreign governments and agencies played a role? How have politics and conflict influenced the issue? Focus on one country where this global issue is particularly problematic and describe the
situation in the country. Finally, show where the country or countries are on a map and provide some visual elements to further illustrate the issue.
Step 2: Research An Organization
Summarize which NGOs are involved with this global issue. Focus on one of the NGOs to profile. Some questions to consider would be: How long has the NGO been around? How many employees does the NGO have? How does the NGO raise money? What percentage of the money that is raised actually goes toward actively solving the problem? How much of their budget is spent on promotion and salaries? Anything else you find interesting.
Step 3: Ad Campaign For the final stage of the civics’ summative, you will create anad campaign to promote the organization and/ or issue. The campaign can be a webpage, website, video, podcast, poster, radio commercial, or any other multimedia platform you can think of.
Possible issues include: Blood diamonds Child SoldiersPolitical prisoners Rain forest destructionIllegal arms trade SlaveryPacific Garbage Patch HIV/AidsGenocide (Darfur) Political Revolution (Syria)Famine Women’s Rights (Afghanistan)Infanticide (India, China) Human Rights AbusesDrug Wars Global WarmingRefugees PovertyNatural Disasters MalariaIllegal Whaling Endangered Species

“Who Am I” Webpage Finally, you will compile everything that you think is relevant with regards to you as a potential employee of a company. Imagine sending your employer to a website that highlights the skills, knowledge, and abilities that you have to offer to a company. The page should include the following:

*Imagine the site as a virtual business card that you could perhaps one day use as a tool to promote yourself to a potential employer.*
