Dear Parent(s) and/or Guardian(s),

The following are Beginning Band expectations and general information that you and your child should be aware of which will ensure the most success out of your young musician.

1. Arrival/Attendance - Rehearsals are every Tuesday morning and begin at 7:15AM. Arriving on time, will allow for proper instrument setup and warm up, providing assistance to any student struggling with various aspects of their instruments as well as reviewing what went on during our previous rehearsal. In addition, being in attendance is just as important, if not more. If your child is consistently absent without any notification, they may be removed from the ensemble.

2. Being prepared - It is imperative that your child comes with all of the instruments necessary equipment and music to ensure a functioning instrument and a productive rehearsal. Being a musician requires the discipline and responsibility of making sure you have exactly what is needed when being part of an ensemble.

3. Instrument care – Instruments are very delicate as well expensive. Taking care of the instrument starts the minute it comes out of the case and is assembled, all the way up until it is safely packed up. Furthermore, even though the instrument is now in its case, it can still be damaged. These instruments will be your child’s throughout the entire year and they must treat it like their own. A repair/replacement fee may be required if the instrument becomes lost/damaged.

4. Practicing – Aside from coming to rehearsal, at home practice is extremely important for new and young musicians. Practicing at home will reinforce what went on during our rehearsal time and ensure that they will be prepared for our next rehearsal as well as for various performances. Practicing 10-20 minutes a day will enhance your child’s abilities and allow them the opportunity for promotion to the next ensemble the following year.

5. Have fun! – Yes, we are here to work, but we are also here to enjoy the beauty and enrichment of music and what it brings to one’s life. There is no better way to express yourself and your creativity than through the power of music. Once again, welcome! I am excited your child wants to be a part of the band and I can not wait to see what the future holds!

Sincerely,

Mr. PassarielloMusic Teacher
