Distance Learning Tasks Week of April 27-May 1, 2019

**Due Friday, May 1st (except Science)

ELA

Unit 30 Suffixes –y, -ly, -ilySpelling words for the week are: sunny, thirsty, quietly, smoothly, suddenly, happily, easily, noisily

Complete 3 ELA choice board activities using the above words. You can use the choice board that was sent home on the last day. If you need another one, check on Microsoft Teams in files. Complete the following pages by either printing the attachment OR have students write down chart on paper and put answers in it. Student can take picture and text, email or submit via Microsoft teams.

Read the following story and write down words with the –y, -ly, or -ily pattern. Take a pic and send back OR download the attachments and highlight using your computer.

Write an opinion paragraph on whether you agree or disagree with the governor reopening businesses on May 1st.

Remember to use capital letters and end punctuation. Make sure you have at least 5 complete sentences in the paragraph and support your answer with real evidence from what you have learned from the news and talking with family members.

Social Studies

Read pages 142-143. Fill in Reading Check at bottom of page 143. Read pages 144-145 and fill out chart at the bottom of page 145. You may also recreate these charts using word and submit or fill out and take picture and send in.

Math – This week in Math we will be reviewing some skills we’ve learned earlier in the year (or maybe even in 2nd grade).

Time – Go to www.brainpopjr.com (can access on phones)

Area - Use the page below to tell how you would find the area of each shape.

Write a few sentences to tell the steps. Use as many strategies as you can.

Fractions – Complete the page below. You can write you answers on a sheet of paper like this: ½=2/4 Or you can print out the sheet and complete it. Take a picture and send it in.

Multiplication - Use the sheet below to practice your multiplication fluency. You can try as many times as you’d like. Send me your best score (in fraction form) in 1 minute.

For example: 42/48 (42 out of 48 correct in 1 minute).

Science - (will take approximately 2 more weeks to complete)

Use a seed from a piece of fruit or you can use a dried lima bean or pea.

Collect some soil from your backyard in a small container, remember the darker the dirt the more nutrients it has for growing things.

Press your seed down into the dirt (just to the first line on your pointer finger).

Cover the seed with the soil. If your container is clear- you can press the seed down by the side where you can still see it through the container.

Sprinkle a little water on the soil- don’t over water. You will need to water it again in 2-3 days.

Place your container out in the sun.

Make a journal – you can have several entries on one page. (see example below)

Go out and check on your plant every 2-3 days. Write down what you see. If you don’t see anything, you can write that down, too. When you see something start to happen, draw a small picture of it with your journal entry.

Keep track of your plant’s growth for 3 weeks.

Example of Plant Journal that has many entries on one page:

Day 1 – April 15, 2020

I planted a watermelon seed today. I used a clear cup so I can still see my seed through the cup. I found some really dark soil, so I hope it will grow fast. (Include picture)

Day 2 – April 16, 2020

The container looks the same.

Day 5 – April 19, 2020

I see some roots coming off of my seed on the side of the container. (include picture)
