Cristina I. Bowerman, Newnan-Coweta Habitat for Humanity, Inc. Like so many others in the 2016-17 Leadership Coweta class, Cristina Bowerman hopes the experience will benefit her professionally and show her better ways to engage and serve the community we all love. “I joined Leadership Coweta,” she said, “so that I could form relationships with professionals throughout the county and to better understand what needs Coweta County has and how I, as a nonprofit professional, can contribute to those needs.” Born and raised in Delray Beach, Florida, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Advertising and Public Relations from the University of Central Florida and, in December 2016, will be graduating from UCF with a Master’s in Nonprofit Management. Before joining Habitat for Humanity, Cristina worked in executive positions with 501(c)6 trade associations in the building material industry. She built educational programs and events that increased the value offered to their memberships. Her work included aiding in the merger of two associations and conceptualizing and leading the rebranding efforts of the newly merged association. She also rebuilt a failing convention and trade show into a successful and profitable event and worked closely with boards to identify new opportunities that would sustain the organizations into the future. After 22 years in the trade association field, Cristina is confident her experience has prepared her to face any challenges she meets.

Cristina I. Bowerman,Newnan-Coweta Habitat for Humanity, Inc.

Like so many others in the 2016-17 Leadership Coweta class, Cristina Bowerman hopes the experience will benefit her professionally and show her better ways to engage and serve the community we all love.

“I joined Leadership Coweta,” she said, “so that I could form relationships with professionals throughout the county and to better understand what needs Coweta County has and how I, as a nonprofit professional, can contribute to those needs.”

Born and raised in Delray Beach, Florida, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Advertising and Public Relations from the University of Central Florida and, in December 2016, will be graduating from UCF with a Master’s in Nonprofit Management.

When Cristina was offered the Habitat for Humanity opportunity, she thought of this quote from Maya Angelou: “Do the best you can until you know better. When you know better, you do better.” She said her goal as leader of the nonprofit is to be part of the solution and not part of the problem. Cristina hopes the Leadership Coweta program will help her “develop relationships with my peers; gain insights from my peers that I can utilize both personally and professionally; and to better understand the issues facing Coweta County so that I can become a more active citizen and contribute to its overall growth.”

Why should others participate in Leadership Coweta? Cristina said, “Leadership Coweta is a great opportunity to learn more about the various industries in Coweta County and how your organization can play a greater role. As a participant, you will grow both personally and professionally through the process, and I can’t think of a better reason than that.”
