Guidelines - Small Business Kick-start Grant

Healthier Workplace WA (HWWA) is offering up to ten $1,000 grants to support Western Australian small businesses develop and implement a workplace health and wellbeing program.

Successful businesses who are awarded funding will also receive free one on one support from our expert advisors to plan and implement a program that is tailored to the needs and interests of their employees.

Who can apply?

Small businesses in Western Australia with 50 or less employees based on current “headcount”, rather than a measure of full-time equivalent persons.

All applicants must have an ABN and/or be incorporated. Businesses must be an employing business. Sole proprietorships and partnerships without employees are not eligible.

How much can I apply for?

Eligible businesses can apply for up to $1,000. However, smaller grant requests are invited.

Each application will be assessed on a case by case basis and successful applicants may not be granted the full amount requested. Limited funds are available and will be allocated on a competitive basis.

Businesses that self-fund a component of their project will be looked upon favourably. (For example: Apply for funding (up to $1,000) and contribute business funds to increase the number of strategies implemented).

What can my business purchase?

Please read the “Example Packages and Costs” section of this document. This will provide you with cost estimates and ideas on how the money could be spent.

Remember to speak to your staff before selecting the strategies you would like funding for. Involving staff in this process and asking them what they want, will ensure you are catering to their needs and interests.

Eligible businesses can use funding to purchase one or more of items listed below.

* Environmental strategies will be prioritised over education and activities as they are more sustainable. When selecting items, we encourage you to select a mixture of environmental strategies as well as education and activities to support behaviour change.

How will my application be assessed?

Applications will be assessed by HWWA staff. All decisions are final and are at the discretion of HWWA.

Priority will be given to businesses that:

· Have spoken to staff and involved them in the decision-making process

· Implement initiatives that include sustainable strategies (environmental)

· Have management support and show a commitment to implementing a long-term workplace health and wellbeing program

· Belong to the following industries: Wholesale Trade; Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Services; Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing; Electricity, Gas, Water and Waste Services; Information Media and Telecommunications; Accommodation and Food Services; Retail Trade; Transport Postal and Warehousing; Manufacturing.

Are there any other requirements to apply for the Small Business Kick-start Grant?

All successful businesses will be required to:

· Attend a tailored training session provided by HWWA, before receiving funding

· Provide a copy of your organisations certificate of incorporation and/or ABN

· Sign a contract with HWWA, agreeing to the requirements outlined in these guidelines

· Invoice HWWA for the approved amount and provide relevant bank account details

· Undertake strategies as agreed with HWWA and seek approval regarding any changes to the approved item/s

· Participate in a short face-to-face or telephone interview (before and after project implementation)

· Complete an acquittal statement once goods have been purchased and send proof of purchase (receipts and photos). Businesses will be required to return any unspent funds.

What is the application process?

1. Read through the guidelines before completing the application form to make sure you are eligible

2. Read over the Example Packages and Costs document to give you an idea of how much each strategy costs and how they can be implemented

3. Complete your application, answering each question to assist with assessment.If you need help with your application, contact HWWA on 1300 550 271 or [email protected]

4. Submit application via email to [email protected] by 4pm, 16 November 2017. Late applications will not be accepted. If you are unable to submit your application online, please contact HWWA and an alternative solution will be provided

5. You will receive an email confirming that HWWA has received your application and will be notified of the outcome by December 2017

Payment and GST

Before receiving payment, you will be required to attend a tailored training session delivered by HWWA. We will liaise directly with you to organise this.

Once you have attended the above session, your organisation will need to invoice HWWA for the approved funding amount and provide relevant bank details. Once HWWA receives this information, your payment will be processed.

Payments are payable to the organisation listed on the application form. This may have taxation implications for recipients. If recipients require specific advice relating to their grant, this can be obtained from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).

Please note, depending on the value of the project and/or grant, the ATO may require an organisation to be registered for GST. If the applicant is registered for GST, the grant will have GST added to the total amount.

Education sessions must be conducted by an accredited health professional (for example, Accredited Practising Dietitian, Nutritionist, Exercise Physiologist, Health Promotion Officer) who will use evidence based material in line with Australian National Health Guidelines.
