MEMBRILLO
GUSTAVIA SUPERBA
Pasir Ris Park
Gustavia superba is a species of trees that grow in Central and North-Western America. Common names include Membrillo, Sachamango and Heaven Lotus. These plants are noted for having very long leaves (exceeding 1m) and large flowers (mostly to 12 cm in diameter). The trunks themselves are mostly 6-10m high with the leaves radiating from the top (like palms). Branches are uncommon.
G. fosteri is an abundant species, especially in secondary forests. It has hard greenish fruits that contain several large seeds about 4 cm in diameter. The yellowish-orange pulp is edible.
