English Task 3 – Grammar and Spelling

Spelling: This week we will focus on words with ‘ch’ pronounced as ‘sh’. Most of these words are taken from French.

Look at the first example: Like a bullet speeding through the air, he ran through the door.

he ran through the door – makes sense on its own, so it is the main clause.

Like a bullet speeding through the air – does not make sense on its own but has to depend on the other part to

make sense, so it is a subordinate clause.

Top tip: Usually there is a conjunction at the start of the subordinate clause.
