DESCRIPTION: Teaching strategy: Summary

This program synthesis offers relevant information about the documentary. It emphasizes key concepts, principles and terms, and the main argument.

Brazil, the country that dominates a continent, the country of Carnival and the Amazon. This program shows us how Brazil has transformed since its discovery by the Portuguese in the year 1500, its customs and enormous wealth, and the challenges of life in its big cities. We’ll witness the time, money and effort the inhabitants of the favelas invest in preparing for the biggest party on the planet: the Rio de Janeiro Carnival; sail down the Amazon with a traveling river merchant; discover the enormous problems the city’s intense traffic poses for the residents of São Paulo and the lengths its executives go to avoid it; experience the national passion for soccer and rodeo; and watch as the city of Ouro Preto blankets itself in colorful carpets of wood chips and flowers to celebrate Easter.

CREDITS: María Dávila de Corona, college professor
