Sector Installation Prepration

1) Align the SIP (Sector replacement platform) roughly to the position in X and Y such that the fingers on the sector installation tool to pick up sector align with the sector within +/- 1 inch.

2) Carefully bring platform close to the installation position of sector to be removed. Set bumper by measuring distance to move in X and reduce air pressure to do fine adjustment.

3) Lock platform with emergency stop and Set Ladder for the access to the platform.4) Build support structure for the extension platform.5) Carefully cut herculite from the opening and tape to the TPC Wheel.6) CLEAN OLD SECTOR THOROUGHLY WITH VACUUM, ALCOHAL, LINT FREE TOWELS. MAKE SURE FINGERS, SHAFT AND GEARBOX ARE

THOROUGHLY CLEANED AS WELL.

O-ring Release Procedure

1) Unscrew 4 bolts as identified in Figure a.2) Replace with custom shoulder bolts. 3) Remove remaining bolts holding sector on the wheel.4) Mount the pusher plate using cooling manifold mounting

holes as shown in Figure b. 5) Seat all 8 swivel feet in the slots in sector ribs.6) Apply pressure starting at a position going clockwise and

keep going until O-ring release.7) Use scraping tool if necessary.

*Note – Be careful using scraping tool not to scratch TPC wheel inner surface. Use lanyard at all times with scraping tool to prevent it from falling into TPC.

7) Push the sector in gently and continue pushing till it reaches 25 in away from inside face of TPC as shown figure 6. For reference a point on shaft can be measured from the rotational collar.

8) Remove the indicator shown in the figure 4 to avoid interference during vertical motion.9) To align the sector at the diagonal of trapezoidal opening, following steps should be followed in sequence:

For Removing Old Sector (East Side)

10) Pull the sector out of the TPC (in Z direction) using handle F. While pulling the sector out, closely watch for any interferences and adjust the position of sector accordingly as shown in figure 7:

Page 6: indico.bnl.gov · Web viewBolt up the fingers at P, Q and R. Mount the indicator and protractor. Set both to zero reading as shown in figure 4: Follow the table below to achieve right

11) Remove the Z stops and move the tool 18” in –Z directions (away from TPC) and lock the tool in this position. 12) To orient sector to pick position as shown in figure 8, use the following steps:

a. A Rotation : Open: 35 Turns (approximately)b. B Rotation : DO NOT MOVEc. Put the sheet metal cover on the sectord. Put the cover on the TPC opening.e. C Rotation: To get it vertical

13) Remove handles A and B (Don’t move/rotate the handles while removing them)14) Remove protractor and make sure to not move or rotate the clamp.15) Move in X to align the shaft to the opening in the back of the platform.16) Move the tool back carefully to extend the shaft through the opening and lock the Z stops when in position.17) Attach the Swivel Eyebolts to the screw holes on top of the sector.18) Attach the shackles and slings19) Lift off the old sector.

New Sector Installation

1) Lower the new sector into the tent and bolt up the fingers at X , Y & Z2) Make sure the fingers remain in the same location and position.3) Move the toolbox forward with just enough room to mount the handles and protractor.4) To orient the sector to insert it at diagonal to the trapezoidal opening use following steps:

a. Rotation C: 64 deg (protractor)b. Rotation A: Close: 35 turns (approximately)

Page 7: indico.bnl.gov · Web viewBolt up the fingers at P, Q and R. Mount the indicator and protractor. Set both to zero reading as shown in figure 4: Follow the table below to achieve right

c. Rotation B: DO NOT TOUCH.d. Move tool box forward and lock it at 35” from TPC face (This is to avoid damage to the sector as large end enters the trapezoidal opening)e. Extend sector into the chamber. Once inside TPC by 6” reposition toolbox to be at 30“ from TPC face (This is to get the back to the location to get

correct preload)5) Push the sector in gently and continue pushing till it reaches 25 in away from inside face of TPC. For reference a point on shaft can be measured from the

rotational collar.6) To orient the sector for installation use following steps:

Motion/ Handle 1 o'clk 2 o'clk 3 o'clk 4 o'clk 5 o'clk 6 o'clk 7 o'clk 8 o'clk 9 o'clk 10 o'clk 11 o'clk 12 o'clk

7) Pull the sector in closer to the TPC face (in Z direction) using wrench at rack and pinion arrangement (F). While pulling the sector in, closely watch for any interferences and adjust the position of sector accordingly.

8) Pull the sector closer slowly. The pins should be aligned with the holes. If not aligned, do fine adjustment to align them.9) Pull the sector closer to the TPC face guided on the tapered pins.10) Make sure spherical pins engage. 11) Install all bolts into the sector with a snug fit.12) Unbolt the fingers at X, Y and Z locations on the sector.13) Remove tapered pins and substitute bolts.14) Follow torque sequence on the bolts and bolt the sector up. Remove the tapered pins.
