Our goal is for students to move from the Novice Low sublevel to the Novice-Mid sublevel: Students at the Novice Mid sublevel can reproduce from memory a modest number of words and phrases in context. They can supply limited information on simple forms and documents, and other basic biographical information, such as names, numbers, and nationality. Novice Mid writers and speakers exhibit a high degree of accuracy on familiar topics using limited formulaic language. Proficient fluency takes time and practice. It isn’t that you “can’t do it”. It’s that you can’t do it YET!

Google Classroom/Teacher Website

Our class has its own Google Classroom page where assignments, project dates and important class information will be posted regularly. I strongly suggest that all students and parents join our page.

Course DescriptionThe Accelerated Spanish course focuses on the development of communicative competence in the target language and understanding of the culture(s) of the people who speak the language. The major means of communication between students and instructors will be in the target language. Through consistent and comprehensible exposure to grammatically-correct language, students develop an "ear" for language. By allowing students to proceed with natural language acquisition, fluency is promoted. Students no longer think about grammar rules–the main reason language production in traditional classes is typically low. The focus will be on the four areas of language: reading, writing, speaking and listening. Achievement will be measured in these areas using performance-based assessments. These show us what the student can “do” using the language.

Discipline Plan Respect yourself, your teacher, and your classmates. Follow all school rules and school board policies. Follow my instructions the first time they are given. Bring assigned materials to class. No gum, no energy drinks but a small snack and

water/fruit juice is permitted if it does not distract from the classroom and is handled respectfully.Consequences

1. Warning 3. Detention2. Phone call or email home. 4. Administrative referral

Teacher Bio

I am entering my 24th year of teaching Spanish and my 16th

year in the Barnegat School District. I was born and raised in New Jersey and received a Bachelor of Art Degree in Spanish from Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, PA and a Secondary Education Certification. I am a resident of Barnegat for 14 years now with my husband of 20 years and our three children and our 6-year-old boxer-lab, Rocky. I am a proud Eagles and Phillies fan, collect anything Day of the Dead related, love to cook, go to the beach, read and spend time with family and friends. I love teaching and being a part of the Barnegat School community and am very excited to return to ROBMS and look forward to a wonderful year!
