They all tried, but tried in vain. Then untying the bundle, he gave them the sticks to break one by one. This they did with the greatest ease. On Saturday, April 20 Rev. Jasper of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Newark fell. As a result of that fall he has a broken leg and is unable to walk.He has been admitted to DeMay Rehabilitation where he is doing well. Redeemer has been without consistent pastoral assistance since that date. Since Pastor Jasper’s recovery will be lengthy and most likely render him wheel chair bound for a significant amount of time. He has decided that he will not return to active ministry at Redeemer. The members at Redeemer have requested assistance from St. John’s. Their request is focused upon:

Presiding over communion services (1st & 3rd Sundays each month). They have a lay person who is willing and able to lead service on the 2nd & 4th& occasional

5th Sunday. Assist with handling any emergency calls from church members.

Assist visiting any shut-ins they may have.Redeemer currently has one service per week on Sunday’s at 10:45 a.m. They have no active Bible Study. They have no active Sunday School program. They have no active VBS program.

The council at Redeemer and St. John’s have discussed the following adjustments in order to facilitate assistance to them:

Our service times would begin the summer schedule on June 16 with worship at 9:15 a.m. The service schedule will be evaluated in August with a mutual agreement for fall.

Redeemer would move their service time from 10:45 to 11:30 a.m. On the 1st and 3rd Sundays Pastor Bob would lead their service and Communion each month.

On the 2nd, 4th and occasional 5th Sundays Redeemer would be led by a lay person guided by Pastor Bob.

As we heard in both the Scripture reading from Ecclesiastes and the fable, we can stand together and find strength, or we can remain separate. It is very important to note that our assistance to Redeemer will have no financial burden upon St. John’s.We are asking you to prayerfully consider our assistance with Redeemer. Feel free to share any thoughts or concerns and ask any questions with Pastor Bob, or one of the Elders. We will be asking for a congregational decision on June 9th.

Preschool NewsLynda Scribner The school year has flown by! The closing ceremony for the 3's was on Thursday, May 23rd. The 4's/Multiage class celebrated on Wednesday May 29th.

May was a busy month. Our 3's hosted a fabulous Mother's Day Tea for their moms, grandmas and friends. Our 4's took a ride on a Victor school bus, learned about bus safety and toured the Victor Early Childhood Education Center. They also had a visit from the Wildlife Rock Stars, toured Farmington Fire Station #1 and raised baby chicks. A hectic, but fun, schedule indeed!

As this, our 50th year of service to St. John's and the Farmington community winds down, I would like to thank God for the many blessings we have received from Him...too many to count.

* Cheryl Power and Tari Orsburn, are a team teaching match made in heaven. Their dedication, creativity, hard work and love for our children are the reasons our program is so successful.

* Pastor Bob supports us with daily greetings, parent contacts and twice monthly Chapel Times. He also lends a hand at special events.

* Lance Eckler is always available to support us throughout the school day in ways too numerous to count.

* And lastly, a huge THANK YOU to Paulette Kuehnert for her work as our treasurer over the last many years, especially the last two. Patience is one of her strong points, believe me!

Thank you all for your continued support of our preschool. We know that we are doing God's work with these little souls and are so grateful to have this opportunity!

Don't forget to follow our adventures on Facebook. Please spread the word that we continue to accept registrations for Fall in both the 3's and 4's/Multiage classes. Contact Lynda Scribner for more information.

President’s Message

Howard G Barnes

Last month I talked about gratitude and thanks for those who got us to where we are today. This month I want to talk about our present... Now with that said I am going to forget or miss someone in this process, so I am going to apologize in advance.

St John’s is where it is because of our faith and dedication to worship in a meaningful way. The board for Worship Music & the Arts is responsible for orchestrating and planning all forms of our worship life. Part of that is we are blessed with extraordinary musical talent. A 4 part choir and director from within the congregation. A praise team that can play in at least 5 different configurations and can play many formats of music. Let's also take a moment to recognize a group of servant leaders who work to make sure every service goes off without a hitch. Ushers, communion assistants, readers, altar guild, banners, bulletin folders, GNG assembly and others who work sound and record services. We are blessed to have people so invested in our worship.

St John’s is a caring congregation reaching out to all.  We have many who contribute in small ways.. everyone who has donated a can of food, a gift, a dollar for a food basket, the angel tree, the food pantry, coupons, or a prayer shawl and all those who organize these drives we thank you. Four times a year we work with St. John’s Victor supporting Ontario County Family Promise. Whether you cooked a meal or spent an evening chatting or playing a game, it makes a difference to those we serve. We reach out to those who need us.

St. Johns is focused on family, the family that is St John's. Those who develop the climate and culture of church. If you are a part of Ladies Aid, Family Circle, Keenagers or another social group or you teach a Sunday school class or VBS or Preschool, each of you are what we are. From the formal greeters each Sunday to the informal matriarchs who make everyone feel welcome.

I would be remiss if did call out our operation teams. The folks who take care of the actual building and property. Whether they are cleaning, fixing, planting, trimming, mowing, rearranging or organizing some here at or in the church. Our building is a gem and blessing we richly share with our families and community. Those also who are responsible for our treasure. From those who faithly give, those who count each week, or who handle a budget or made a donation. All of these are needed to ensure the mission Christ gave to us.

So, there is one more group to thank, the formal board members and leaders of the church. But I think I will save that for another monthly. Lastly I want to make note of my interesting formatting of this article... each of the opportunities to serve St John's is bolded, I hope you find yourself among one of the groups, however I would challenge you to find one you are not a part of and try it... with you, we are who Christ needs us to be!

But the weather is so nice! How many times do we wake up on a Sunday and think ‘well I really should go to church but the sun is shining and I really have so much yard work to do and today is the only day I have off this week?!’  We all do it and God does understand but the problem is once we skip church because its nice out, we skip because of some other reason and guess what pretty soon we get in a mind- set that church isn't that important -we think ‘ God knows we love him and believe in him so what's the big deal if we make it to church?’ The thing is, church is important! It is the time God has asked us to spend with Him, to spend listening with His word and receiving His sacrament.  It is ALSO just as important that the body of Christ come together to build one another up. We get something from one another and provide an extremely valuable gift to someone else. It's both a vertical and a horizontal relationship.  Hebrews 10:25 God speaks to us about this! In doing this we keep the most important thing first! God!  So, the next time the weather is nice and you are looking at the lawn thinking it really needs to be mowed- consider, is your lawn that important?  Or does God have a message that you need to hear when you are at church? My guess is if you go to church, God has a message that you may have missed if you were busy mowing your lawn!

Sunday School News

Linda Braun

June 2019

It’s hard to believe that our school year is coming to an end. I wanted to remind you of some of our year-end events that are coming up. I want to thank St. John’s for allowing me to direct the Sunday School program for several years. I look forward to working with whomever is chosen to take over.

June 16 –Sunday School Closing Celebration. Please join us in the sanctuary at 9:45, as we recognize our children, and Sunday School staff. We will also announce our distribution of our mission monies. A reception will follow. Please feel free to bring some goodies for our reception.

June 16 – Family Promise Banner: During both worship services, we will dedicate the banner created by our teens in honor of Family Promise of Ontario County. A donation of $100 will be made at that time.
