The RTE Home School Hub is on RTE2 every week day for 2 hours during the closure. There are some excellent lessons on it and I have provided a menu for the lessons this week. You can pick the ones you would like to watch and I have provided the blue links for you to click on and there you’ll find loads of fun activities to do based on each lesson. Fun morning activity work for Mr O’Leary’s room.
I’ve devised a really, really, really big list of fun morning activities for you to choose from. Do at least one or two each day and if you can, send me on a picture of the results on SeeSaw or upload it to google classroom where I will post an assignment called ‘Morning Activities’. Enjoy!
1. Invent a cartoon character. What does it look like? What does it do? Create a comic strip story. ·
2. Make a playlist. Pick your top 5 favourite tunes. ·
3. Make up a gym routine with five different exercises. Repeat it twice. Do it another day. ·
4. Ring an older person you know and have a chat. ·
5. Make up and play Kim’s game. How many items can you remember? Can you remember them in an hour? ·
6. Find and draw repeated patterns in your house and/or garden (Tiles, furniture etc) ·
7. Write a poem or short story with a title of your choice ·
8. TREASURE Can you find objects around the house beginning with the letters in this word? Bruskey.
9. Make a list of 10 food items and their weights. Start with the lightest. What is their total weight? ·
10. Make a puppet out of an old sock ·
11. Old magazines or newspapers? Cut out letters to make a message and stick on a page. ·
12. Pi Skyline. Pi is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. 3.141592653. Draw a graph to show this number BUT turn each bar into a skyscraper! ·
13. Expand an image. Get a picture or an old photo. Stick it on a blank page and create a new picture. Use your imagination – space, monsters, jungle you decide. ·
14. Raining? Put a plastic tub or box in the middle of the garden and use a ruler to measure the rainfall. Don’t forget to record the results (date, time period, amount in millimetres). ·
15. Make a bookmark for yourself or someone else. ·
16. Imagine you are the President. Now imagine he is writing a letter to you. What would he write to you? ·
17. Sing a song in private. Get the words online. ·
18. Make a card for someone who needs cheering up. Write a good comment inside. ·
19. Sock basketball. Put a basket on one side of the room and sit against the opposite wall (go closer if you have to) Throw balled up socks into the basket. How many in a row can you score? ·
20. Clean under your bed! ·
21. Core exercises. Can you hold a plank pose, or a crab or a boat pose? ·
22. Favourite children’s book. Draw a favourite scene. ·
23. Play a game with a brother or sister. ·
24. Write a poem or a paragraph about either ‘My Favourite Sport’ or ‘Music’. ·
25. Write a mini-saga (50 words) ·
26. Go into your garden and do one of these tasks outside. ·
27. Write a paragraph to a parent with the most over the top persuasive phrases you can think of. ·
28. Make a poster with some favourite song lyrics. Decorate it. ·
29. Read a story for your younger brother or sister. ·
30. Keep a diary. Each day record a mixture of information about outside your home and inside your head. ·
31. Estimate & measure the area & perimeter of a room/rooms of your choice ·
32. Find the sum & product of the 4th & 5th prime numbers ·
33. List the prime numbers from 0-100 ··
34. Draw & cut out a selection of 2D Shapes & use them to make a picture ·

Creative writing. Write a story about what you would do if you became a millionaire when you won the National Lottery. Type it out and upload it to Google Classroom. I have created an assignment called ‘Lottery’ and that is where you can upload it to.

SPHE: SPHE Older people have been advised to stay at home. Make a list of ten of your favourite things (colour, song, film, sporting occasion etc) and then interview an older neighbour or relative over the phone to compare. Record their answers. Ask them to explain and enjoy the chat!
