2018 Summer Reading Program East Smithfield Public Library 50 Esmond St Smithfield, RI 02917 How it works: Registration for the program begins on Saturday, June 16 th , from noon to 2:00pm, with our kick-off to Summer Reading! If you can’t make it, you can register anytime over the next two weeks (June 18 th through June 29 th ). The program is open to any child 12 years old or younger and runs from July 2 nd to August 10 th . When you sign-up, you will be given a reading log, stickers, a bookmark and a special summer reading bag. Our suggested reading goal for over the summer is to read or be read to at least twenty minutes a day. You can collect weekly prizes just for reading and visiting our library. We hope you will join us at the library for an exciting summer. Summer Meals: Free summer meals will be served for the first time at our library beginning July 9 th and ending August 16 th . Meals will be served Monday through Thursday from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. These meals are available to all under the age of 18 and must be consumed on site. Come and enjoy lunch while taking in all the library has to offer. Any questions, please ask Ms. Carol (401-231-5150, x 3). Story Times: Registration is required. Snapology – Monday, July 9th from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.In honor of our summer reading theme, children will use legos to build and program a “Just Dance” robot. Children will have a blast as they build, learn and play! Ages 6 to 12

Art Wednesdays: We will be offering art programs on the following Wednesdays from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Ages 5 and older.July 11th: Mini Terrariums. Make your own mini terrarium with recycled jars, colored stones and mini succulents. July 18th: Tie-Dye. Make your own tie-dye t shirt. You supply the t-shirt and we will provide the rest.August 1st: Play with clay. We will use air dry clay and cookie cutters to make fun shapes that we can imprint with color and rubber stamps. Make yours into a magnet or a pendant. August 8th: Rock Painting. We will paint rocks! Why? Because Libraries Rock!

Performances:Please register for all events. Please be sure that you are able to attend the program, since space is limited. If you are unable to attend after signing up, kindly call the library to cancel.

Friday, July 13th at 10:00 a.m. – Diane Du of Do! MusicCome join us for this fun interactive music program geared for young children. Mrs. Du has visited our library in the past and we are fortunate that she will be visiting us again this summer. Ages 0 to 5 and their caregivers.

Thursday, July 19th at 6:30 p.m. - Louis Fazzina of Apple Valley Rocks & MineralsLouis Fazzina is a life-long collector and purveyor of fine mineral and fossil specimens from around the world. Not only does Louis source specimens for all

over the world, he also digs for local minerals himself, right here in Rhode Island. Louis will be speaking about mineral collecting and about the amazing mineral specimens that can be found right under our feet here in Rhode Island! This will be a great program for families with children ages 6 and older.

Friday, July 20th at 10:30 p.m. – Fiddle N’ FunThis music program will provide unique, hands-on learning experiences through singing, movement, instruments and much more! Ages 0 - 7

Wednesday, July 25th at 1:00 p.m. – Dancing Threads RI Learn to sew! Children will create a felt bookmark while learning basic sewing skills like threading a needle, tying knots, and sewing a hem. Children will leave with a completed bookmark to use throughout summer reading. Ages 5+

Thursday, August 2nd at 6:30 p.m. – Mermaid MasterpiecesMermaid Masterpieces is a fun painting program. The instructor will teach children how to paint a specific painting using step by step instructions. All the supplies will be provided and each child will create their own masterpiece to take home. Ages 5+

Monday, August 6th at 1:00 p.m. – Storyteller Joe TherouxStoryteller Joe Theroux presents a collection of stories about humanity's universal language: music! A young violinist is the only one who can save the world from the Sea King's dreadful dancing. A greedy turtle uses his quick wit to trick all of the birds of the forest into becoming rappers . . . but why? Joe uses his trademark character-driven and high-energy style to bring this collection of humorous adapted folktales to life for all ages. Ages 5+

Friday, August 10th from noon to 1 p.m. - End of the Summer Reading program Celebration Come join us at the library for pizza, lemonade, popsicles and fun!
