    WAR for dominance !

Microsofts Internet Explorer and Netscapes Navigator battled fordominance of the browser market.

Microsoft and Netscape innovated along paths that reflected theirbusiness goals.

In the process, though, Web site developers and even Web surfers paid

    a price.

Developers and Web Surfers paid the price

Internet Explorer and Navigator had formats that differ in some key ways.

Therefore, to develop a Web site that could work with both browsers, adesigner had to create either

Two sets of sites, which costs additional time & money.

    OR

One site that satisfies the elements that both browsers have in common,

which limits the capability of the site to take full advantage of eachbrowsers strengths.

This, in turn, limited HTML usage to a small subset of the capabilities thatwould be possible if there was no standards conflict.

Developers and Web Surfers paid the price

Oren Etzioni :Professor of Computer Science

    University of Washington.

The fine-tuning [of Web pages] required for each browser istime- consuming. More effort is being directed toward Web

    customization than innovation.

    Tasty Bytes !

    Latest build from Web-Kit , a browser

rendering engine has support for 3d

animations using pure XHTML and CSS.

Google Chrome and Apple Safari are the two

    browsers running on this engine.

But again this feature is not cross-browser

compatible and browsers like Firefox, Flock

    and IE wont support this.

So, in spite of being cool. NOT USABLE !

    THE WEB STANDARDS PROJECT

To discourage the browser discrepancies, agroup of developers formed the Web

    Standards Project

to lobby industry officials to support theorganizations demand that all browsers

    comply with W3C standards.

They call it WaSP. Its easy to spell this wayand the logo..NO.ITS NOT an ACRONYM.
