Combining Like-Terms

Introduction: What does it mean to combine like-terms? Like-terms are when the

variables and powers of two numbers are the same. You can combine these

numbers simply by adding or subtracting their coefficients, or the number in front

of the variable.

Task: You will be looking at different websites and watching videos to help you

understand the concept of combining like-terms. You will then use your newly

found knowledge to evaluate practice problems.

Process: First watch this video on combining like terms and follow along with the

examples. Once you have completed that, read this lesson. After you have done

both of those things, you may begin doing the practice problems on this

worksheet.

Evaluation: You will be evaluated on your participation and how well you do on

the worksheet. There is a total of 20 possible points.

Conclusion: Remember, you can’t combine grapes and apples. You can only

combine grapes with grapes and apples with apples. It’s the same for X and Y

variables when combining them. For more explanations, visit:
