Every Child is Unique
Our Curriculum: How to Learn vs. What to Learn
Our Units
Unit 1: Communities We all need to understand where we belong. Students will inquire into the communities they belong to, identifying similarities and differences along the way. The concept of uniqueness will be discussed and how this enriches our classroom community will be explored. Students will discuss, role play, and practice being responsible caring, and cooperative in their own classroom community.
Unit 2: Materials Children are naturally curious about objects in the world around them. Students will explore the different properties of man-made and natural objects that are present in their everyday lives. They will participate in experiments and explorations into how the properties of different materials affect their uses. They will work both independently and in small groups to construct meaningful knowledge about objects in their world.
Unit 3: Our BodiesOur bodies are a big part of who we are and we all share a common cycle of life. Students will participate in projects that will help them learn different and body systems and how they work. They will also learn about how to keep their body parts and systems functioning well by living a healthy lifestyle. They will inquire into the different stages of life we all go through and how different cultures celebrate and respond to these stages.
Unit 4: StoriesStories are a universal way of communicating. Through listening to, reading, telling, writing, and acting out stories, students will develop an understanding that stories are told all over the world in different ways and for different purposes.
