Transcript of Web 2.0?
What is Web 1.0
• Web 1.0 is a retronym which refers to the state of the World Wide Web, and any website design style used before the advent of the Web 2.0 phenomenon. It is the general term that has been created to describe the Web before the 'bursting of the dot-com bubble' in 2001, which is seen by many as a turning point for the internet.
Where did I get that definition?
• From Wikipedia
• Like an online encyclopedia except we all wrote it
• The foundation of Web 2.0 is us
The Internet then
• The Internet was fairly passive
• Like TV• You could basically
look• All the interactive
stuff you did was on your computer not the net
The Internet Now
• Blogs• Social Bookmarking• Social sites• Photo sharing• Wikis• Video sharing• RSS (news feeds)• podcasting
• Wikipedia• YouTube• Zoho• De.licio.us• Facebook• Flickr• Twitter• Pbwiki
What’s the Difference?
• The web is no longer passive• We can all participate• We can share with everyone else (or not)• We have constant access through wireless• What used to be on our computers now lives
on the web• The web has become a moving target
I’m talking about Web 2.0
• A definition: Web 2.0 is a term often applied to a perceived ongoing transition of the World Wide Web from a collection of websites to a full-fledged computing platform serving web applications to end users. Ultimately Web 2.0 services are expected to replace desktop computing applications for many purposes.
