A HISTORY OF THE INTERNET The Brief: Working in a pair, your task is to make a WIKI that explains the internet from its origins to the world of Web 2.0 today. All your work is to be uploaded to Google Docs (http://docs.google.com/ ), where you and your partner can share it. Before you begin, you and your partner need to read through the questions/instructions and come up with a LIST OF ALL THE JOBS that need doing to complete your wiki. Make this list on http://www.tadalist.com/ , and indicate who is going to do each job. Tick them off as you complete them. What your wiki must cover: LANGUAGE OF THE WEB Include an explanation of at least 10 web terms, and a quiz/activity which uses them. A useful site for this is: http://www.classtools.net/main_area/education-games-php/quiz (you can embed these games as a widget in your wiki). Found some other sites that let you do the same, or better? Go for it!! WHERE DID THAT COME FROM? When did the internet start? Why did the internet begin? How did it grow into what we know today? When did the World Wide Web come about, and what’s the difference between it and the internet? Explain what you found on the above questions. Create a timeline of the Internet, from the 1950s to 2009. Use http://www.classtools.net/main_area/education-games-php/timeline and use a widget to embed it in your wiki. WEB 2.0?! I DIDN’T KNOW THERE WAS A 1.0! Where is the internet at now? What is Web 2.0? Explain and give examples. Where do you think it’s going? Explain why.

A HISTORY OF THE INTERNET The Brief:

Working in a pair, your task is to make a WIKI that explains the internet from its origins to the world of Web 2.0 today. All your work is to be uploaded to Google Docs (http://docs.google.com/), where you and your partner can share it. Before you begin, you and your partner need to read through the questions/instructions and come up with a LIST OF ALL THE JOBS that need doing to complete your wiki. Make this list on http://www.tadalist.com/, and indicate who is going to do each job. Tick them off as you complete them.

What your wiki must cover: LANGUAGE OF THE WEB

Include an explanation of at least 10 web terms, and a quiz/activity which uses them.

REFERENCES You must acknowledge your sources! There are lots of ways to reference a website, but one of the most common ways is like this:

Author's name (last name first). Document title. Date of access <URL>. eg: Victorian Department of Education Home Page. Department of Education and Training. 17 February. 2009. <http://www.education.vic.gov.au/> It's important that you keep track of websites that you get information from. If you just take other people's ideas or information, that counts as plagiarism. You can fail if you plagiarise!!

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: What are you going to call your wiki? How is it going to look? What pages will you need? How are you going to present your work? Is it going to be all writing? Can you use anything to make it more interesting? What about stuff from CreativeCommons? Slideshare? YouTube? Can you make your own mini-movie or animation to help get your message across? How can you make *your* wiki stand out from everyone else’s? You will need to sign up to http://docs.google.com/ and http://www.tadalist.com/ - how are you going to keep track of all your usernames and passwords?

WHAT TO SUBMIT: Your wiki Screen dumps of each of your shared documents in Google Docs Screen dumps of your Tadalist
