Difference Between the Internet and WWW

The Internet is a massive network of networks, a networking infrastructure. While WWW or simply Web, is a way of accessing information over the medium of the internet.

Internet connects millions of computers together globally. WWW is an information sharing model that is built on top of the Internet ex- browsers (IE or Firefox)

WEB 2.O or Journalism 2.O

It is 2nd generation of the www that focused on the ability for people to collaborate and share information online.

It signifies a conversation between the original author of the content and all those who can comment or participate.

It refers to the transition form static HTML web pages to a more dynamic HTML or dynamic web.

It is also regarded as the social web. Ex- Wikipedia, facebook, youtube, all online affairs of government as well as private entity.

Web 3.O or Journalism 3.O Web 3.0 is an extension of Web 2.0. It is the location-aware and moment-

relevant web. Combined with the social web 2.0 services,

web 3.0 provides the Internet user with the opportunity to engage with people all over the world on a variety of devices. Ex-Twitter, 3G Cellular, Wifi networks, iPhone, iTV (gives local TV listings), OneTap-local movie listings and trailers, LocalPick or LocalEats (locate nearby restaurants with user reviews)

Web 4.O or Journalism 4.O It is also known as the “symbiotic web” Human and machine can interact in

symbiosis like mind controlled interfaces. With the help of web 4.0 people also talk

about ambient intelligence, WebOS, artificial intelligence.

It is still an underground idea in progress.

Web 1.O: In 1991. Web 2.O: In 1999 by Tim Berners-Lee’s and

term Web 2.0 coined by DiNucci. Web 3.O: Coined by John Markoff of the

New York Times in 2006. Web 4.O: Still in developing stage

approximately we can consider it’s development in 2009-2010.
