Transcript of Weathering and Erosion Weathering is… When rocks are broken apart and create sediments.
Physical or Chemical Weathering
• Physical weathering is weathering by mechanical movement. Examples include ice freezing and thawing.
Chemical Weathering
• Oxidation or rusting. Oxygen combines with rocks containing iron and the rust fall off the rock.
Erosion
• The process of sediment moving.• Most erosion is caused by water being pulled
by the force of gravity (rivers).
Quiz your partner
• What causes erosion? Give examples.• What is the major force behind erosion? • What is the difference between erosion and
weathering?
Deposition is..
• When the sediments that are moved land and stay somewhere. Sand is deposited on a beach.
