The Acharaya Abhinav Gupt Sheshadri Samroh Samiti, which is organizing the Abhinav Sand- esh Yatra, for the first time, said the pilgrimage would start from New Delhi in the beginning of 2nd week of June and it would be open to participation of people from Jammu and Kashmir and outside. “We will be organizing Pooja at Kheer Bawani in Ganderbal on June 10 and other temples before starting the yatra to the Abhinav Gupta Cave next day (June 11) for holding Pooja there too,” said Con- veyer of the yatra, Ajay Bharti. The Samiti, according to Bharti, was an amalgam of differ- ent organization having members from all over India and is headed by the founder of the Art of Living foundation Sri Sri Ravi Shanker. “We will also be holding func- tion at SKICC after yatra which will be attended by Sri Sri Ravi Shanker,” said Bharti. “The pro- gram is aimed at highlighting the relevance of Abhinav Gupta as an expert on varied subjects to the contemporary world.” Coordinator of Samiti Dileep Mattoo said the aim of the yatra was to “bring into limelight the life and times” of Gupta, considered to be a scholar and Acharaya (Guru) of Shaivism and “redevelop links with the persons and communities that continue to believe their origins to be in Kashmir”. On its official Face-book page, the Samiti has mentioned that the “Kalash (pot) containing holy soil from Kashmir after been taken to various sacred and reli- gious places of the country would finally be taken to Bhairav cave in Beerwa on June, 11 after which a grand function would also be arranged there”. The yatra, as per the details on the Facebook page, began from Kanchi Kamkotipeetham in South India on March, 31 after passing through various places of histori- cal and religious significance in India was likely to culminate at the cave located on the foothills of Bayrum in Beerwa. “The forgotten genius from Kashmir– we know (sic) is the greatest symbols of Kashmir iden- tity as a knowledge centre. He was an excellent seeker, philoso- pher and exponent of Shaivism. The diversity of Indian thought is synthesized in his writings,” men- tions the FB page. Mattoo said the yatra, which would mark the 1000th death anniversary of Gupta, has already passed through different states, was being held for the first time. “It’s purpose is to create aware- ness about the life and times of Abhinav Gupta and his contribu- tion in the field of literature and philosophy,” said Mattoo. The Samiti had on January, 4 this year kick-started “the year- long millennium celebration” of Acharaya Abhinav Gupt on its foundation day (Sankalap Divas). Besides Delhi, the function was held at SSK Jammu, Ishwar Ashram Trust, Mohinder Nagar, Jammu, Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, Bangalore and Uttara- khand. At Delhi the function was held near Mandi House which was attended by BJP MP and Chairperson NDMC, Meenakshi Lekhi, RSS Sangchalak for Delhi, Ahuja and Vice Chancellor Shri Lal Bahadur Sanskrit University, Delhi Dr Ramesh Pandey. In Jammu the function was presided over by Justice (retd) G D Sharma while as the speakers included Prof K N Pandita, Swami Kumar Ji and Anand Swami Pran Nath Bhat Gareeb. On the occasion Shiv Prasad Raina was announced the presi- dent of Acharya Abhinav Gupt celebration Committee J&K, Pardeep Koul as secretary and Maharaj Krishan Bhat as trea- surer. The foundation is planning five international seminars and 25 national seminars all over India during the “millennium celebra- tions” which will conclude on January 17 next year. The yatra is part of year long celebrations. “The entire program will be held as per the laws and wherever necessary we will seek permis- sion from the Government,” said Bharti. Deputy Commissioner, Budgam Mir Altaf said he wasn’t aware about the yatra. “Nothing of that sort has been brought to our notice,” he said. The Critical Care Ambulance fied with the latest life support equipment was put to service by the Help Poor Voluntary Trust aſter an inau- gural ceremony at SK Institute of Medical Sci- ences at Soura. The inaugural ceremony was led by Director SKIMS, Dr Showkat Ali Zargar in presence of Founder Help Poor Voluntary Trust (HPVT), Farooq Ahmed Lone. Speaking on the occasion, doctors lauded the initiative and said lack of Critical Care Ambulances is responsible for deaths of many patients. “We would be able to help people with serious heart problems, such as acute MI or respiratory failure reach hospital safely, which is sometimes not possible otherwise,” Dr Abdul Qayoom, Professor of Anesthiology and specialist in Pediatric Anesthesia said. The ambulance is fitted with Automated External Defibrillator (AED) that can be lifesav- ing in case of Acute Coronary Syndrome. It is also equipped with Vital Signs Monitor (ECG, Blood Pressure and SPO2) that can help medicos and paramedics keep a track of patient’s condition and act as per the requirement. The ambulance has Medical Oxygen Flowmeter, nebulizer and all emergency drugs and consumables. The ambulance is designated for district Sri- nagar and will be stationed in the city. Medicos said it would come handy to transport critically injured patients also in addition to those in require- ment of intensive care. “We can save people with unstable cardiac and respiratory functions as well as trauma victim,” a Critical Care specialist said. Founder of HPVT said this (ambulance) was ‘just a beginning’. “It is a small beginning. We need such ambulances in every district, if not every block. We need these on highways,” he said. There is no Critical Care Ambulance in govern- ment sector in Kashmir and all Kashmir hospitals transport sick between the hospitals and home in vehicles with no life support or even first aid in some cases. The ambulance has been procured at Rs 30 lakh donated by JK Relief Foundation Trust, Bangaluru. ‘Authorities deceive public and government on project achievement’ MUDASIR YAQOOB Srinagar, May 26: The State Gov- ernment has come under sharp crit- icism over slow pace of dredging of river Jhelum as against the target- ed extraction of 50000 cubic meter material, the achievement has been less than 10000 cubic meter. The dredger installed at Shivpora here has extracted around 8000 to 9000 cubic meter material during the dredg- ing process, against 50000 cubic meters, in the past 25 days. “In the name of dredging, authorities are wasting public money. The dredger has again stopped working for the past few days,” said an eye- witness. The Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) department has awarded Rs 46 crore project to Kolkata-based dredg- ing firm. A hydraulic dredge at Shivpora floats on water and pumps out material through a temporary pipeline to an offsite location. Several visits by this reporter to the spot revealed that the machine often remains off due to technical snags. “Presently, the machine is off for the past four days as it has developed some technical snag. The company is waiting for an engineer to arrive from Delhi or Kolkata to fix the problem,” said a labourer hired for the project by the company. The official of Reach Company at Shivpora justified stoppage of work, saying: “It is a machine and there is lot of garbage in the river. The garbage often blocks the suc- tion pipe and we have to stop the machine to clear it. It has developed some technical snag yesterday.” Another senior official of Reach Company, wish- ing not to be named, said it takes around 15 minutes to stop the machine and another 15 minutes to run it after restart. “The machine is extracting around 2000 cubic meters per day provided it runs continuously,” he said. However, on spot visit and assessment of the extracted material reveals that not more than 8000 to 10000 cubic meters of material have been extracted from the Jhelum at Shivpora. “If the machine is able to extract 2000 cubic meters in a day, it should have extracted 50000 cubic meters in the past twenty five days,” said locals. They added that the contradictory figures are itself evident that the dredger is delaying dredging process. “The capacity of machine, as per officials is 2000 cubic meters per day but we have only around 8000 cubic meters extracted. It means there is deficit of 42000 cubic meters,” said Yasir Ahmad, a local. When this reporter asked the officials of Reach Com- pany why they have failed to fix the technical snag for the past four days, they said: “It is not four days but only one or two days. We have to call men and machinery from outside to fix the technical problems as these facili- ties (engineers and other tools) are not available here.” They also claimed that state government is yet to pro- vide them letter of allotment, for carrying the dredging. “We have qualified the tender for this project. How- ever, I&FC department has not given us any letter of allotment till date but still we are executing the project,” they said. Javid Jaffar, I&FC Chief Engineer said that depart- ment has already expressed displeasure before the com- pany over slow pace of work. “I agree that progress is slow but it not also true that nothing is being done,” he added.
