• Rain is also called participation.

Tornados• Whenever we have bad

weather it is very important to remember to stay safe.

• Get out of cars. • Go to a safe house with a

basement or a middle room with no windows.

Page 8: Weather, forcasts and seasons

Sunny Weather• When we have sunny

weather the temperature outside is warmer than when we have cloudy, rainy or stormy days.

Partly Cloudy Weather

•This kind of weather is when you can look up into the sky and see the sun and the clouds.

• Clouds are moisture up in the air that eventually gets heavy with water droplets.

•Then the clouds release the rain. This is part of the water cycle.

Page 10: Weather, forcasts and seasons

When we have cloudy days the sky is filled up with mostly clouds. It is harder to see the sun on these days. Also we can have cloudy nights. At night it is harder to see the moon.

Snowy

• We love snow days! Snow is a type of precipitation. It falls from the clouds when

the temperatures are freezing outside.

Freezing Rain (not sleet)

Rain begins as large frozen participation (like ice cubes). Then it falls through a deep warm layer of air. This makes the ice cubes melt. Then the rain falls through one last layer of air that is very cold. The freezing rain still falls as rain but freezes almost instantly once it hits an object that is already cold. (windshields, the ground, power lines)

Sleet

•Rain begins as large frozen participation (like ice cubes).

•Then it falls through a shallow warm layer of air. This makes the ice cubes melt and become smaller.

•Then the smaller frozen rain falls through one last layer of air that is very cold.

•The cold layer refreezes the rain and when it falls it is called sleet.Sleet is very small.

Page 14: Weather, forcasts and seasons

Sleet

•Sleet is similar to freezing rain in some ways because they both involve an inversion (change).•Sleet is different from freezing rain, though, because sleet pellets are already frozen before they reach the ground.  •Freezing Rain is freezes once it hits the ground.

Sleet can almost look like snow on the ground at first glance.

But look closer. It is like tiny little ice droplets. It almost looks like broken glass.

Hail

• Hail is the “ice cubes” we talked about earlier that never melts.

• It can range from small to grapefruit sized hail stones.

• Hail is dangerous.• If it begins to hail take cover in

a house, under a bridge, or a covering. Do not stay in your car it can be damaged.
