Sport

The month of March saw the UK’s 7th biennial “Sport Relief” fundraising and Breezes would like to think we played our small part reaching our target of £150 through donations and ourSport Relief cake.

To all those who gave we would like to say a big thank you and we hope the Pompey fans forgive the propensity for red and white shirts that were predominant on the day.

We would also like to add our congratulations to Gosport Borough on having their day at Wembley, although they couldn’t bring the trophy down to Hampshire, we are sure that the memory of playing on the hallowed turf will, after the initial disappointment, still be a happy one.

Of course many a Portsmouth fan will tell you a Wembley final does not guarantee continued success and it may not be long before Gosport Borough and Portsmouth are playing in the same league. Again, sorry Pompey fans.

Weather

Naturally, as soon as you start painting outside, the rain returns. But the good weather is on its way back and to celebrate this we have plugged the ice-cream back in and set it in motion. Why not be among the first to try it out.

Quiz

No crossword this week, apart from those muttered when trying to get to those awkward to paint areas, but here’s a little quiz.

1. What gets longer the more you cut it?

2. What gets dirtier the more you wash?

3. A cowboy rides into town on Friday, stays 3 days and leaves on Friday. How is this possible?

4. Four men were in a boat on the lake. The boat turns over, and all four men sink to the bottom of the lake, yet not a single man got wet! Why?

5. Which side of chicken has most feathers?

No prizes, but just a little fun. Would you be interested to attend if Breezes held a quiz and supper night? Let the crew know, email us or post on the new facebook page.

Next month we have some real-life exam questions, but let’s leave you with this one.

Dear Friends, February ended in some trepidation as we were left awaiting a reply from Fareham Borough Council following their Food Hygiene inspection. March started in delight as we were awarded with the highest rating of 5. With over 600 inspections by the Borough, we are very satisfied that we proved ourselves worthy of top marks. Of course we have some little works to do, so please excuse us while we attend to these minor matters.

It is also a target of ours to form partnerships with the community and act as host for gatherings organised by “Eat Cake and Create Community” and “Driftwood and Daisies”. Please ask us for more information on these chances to have some fun with new or old friends. We know they will be great additions to Hill Head.

We also welcome back our wonderful waffles and soft ice-cream. Fun to try.

Finally, March saw us celebrate our first 100 days of bringing you the Breezesexperience. Thanks to you and our great crew for all the help and best wishes. We hope it will remain your choice in Hill Head.

April through the ages

Did you know that in April…

1564 Shakespeare was born. He died on the same day in 1616, fittingly St. Georges Day.

1581 Drake completed his world circumnavigation. Albeit he was the runner-up and then called a dragon by the Spanish. Praise indeed!

1606, The Union Flag was adopted as the National Flag. As is well known, it is a merging of the old national flags, but nobody seems to have told the Welsh.

1912, RMS Titanic struck iceberg. Still remembered by many, despite the film we had to endure.

1931, Highway Code was first issued. Originally 18 pages and 1 penny, it now sells over 1 million copies per year.

1972, First mobile call was made. Seems we can’t live without them nowadays.

1973, VAT was introduced to UK. I’ll give it 20% attention.
