Defining Wearables
5
#WYODMaaS360 @MaaS360
Wearable Technology isn’t a New Concept
6
#WYODMaaS360 @MaaS360
Types of Wearables (Modern)
• Fitness Trackers • Smart Watches • Glasses/Goggles • Cameras • Health Monitors • Audio
7
#WYODMaaS360 @MaaS360
Fitness Trackers
• Come in multiple form factors • Most popular (today) • Limited/specific functionality • Simple/non-existent UI • Bluetooth Connectivity
8
#WYODMaaS360 @MaaS360
Smart Watches • Enhanced functionality • Additional functionality via “apps” • Bluetooth connectivity to smart device • May eventually replace fitness devices
9
#WYODMaaS360 @MaaS360
Glasses/Goggles
• Types: Consumer, Sports, Gaming • Functionality varies greatly • Some common features • Connectivity: Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Wired, Cellular • Most advanced of the bunch

Wearables in the Enterprise Features, Advantages and Limitations
12
#WYODMaaS360 @MaaS360
Smart Watches and the Enterprise • Popular Vendors:
– Pebble (Pebble), Sony (Smart Watch 2), Samsung (Galaxy Gear)
– Pebble is iOS/Android, Sony and Samsung are Android only
– Email/Calendar notification – Third party apps?
• Features – Notification and response to voice calls, SMS,
device notifications – Media playback integration – Email/Calendar notifications – Social media integration – Built in and third party apps
13
#WYODMaaS360 @MaaS360
Smart Watches Limitations • Limitations
– Input to device relatively limited – Small display limits amount of data
that can be communicated efficiently
– Device integration highly varies form platform to platform and device to device
– Needs persistent connection to smartphone/tablet for most functionality
14

Google Glass and the Enterprise
• Features – Notification, make and respond to voice calls, SMS – Bluetooth headset – Web Browser/Google Search/Google Now – Gmail integration (Email, Calendar) – Social media integration (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) – Maps/Directions – Numerous third party apps – Gmail integration – Third party apps
• Connectivity – Bluetooth and Wi-Fi
15

Google Glass is Evolving
16
• Advantages – Multiple input method (voice, touchpad, connected device) – “Large screen” experience – Cloud based apps today (Mirror API), Local apps (GDK) in near future – Wi-Fi connection allows for more functionality – iOS and Android – Future potential very high in enterprise
• Limitations – Voice interface provides less security – Cannot replace a tablet/smartphone (pairing still important) – Battery life poor with nominal use – Open to hacking much like any other Android based device – Privacy concerns – Security seems to be an afterthought at this time

Poll question
Is your company currently evaluating how wearable technology can be leveraged? a) Yes b) No
17
#WYODMaaS360 @MaaS360
Enterprise Benefits • Today – wearables are targeted primarily for consumers • Likely early adopters in the enterprise include:
– Health care industry – Transportation industry – Service management – Any field in which “hands-free” could be of benefit
• As time goes on, and devices mature, wearables will come closer to the usefulness of smartphones and tablets, but replacing them may be a bit of a stretch
18

Enterprise Examples • Healthcare industry
– Example 1: Hands free access to patient data
– Example 2: Protection against clerical errors
• Manufacturing/Production – Example 1: Locating inventory in a
warehouse • Cable/Phone/Power
– Example 1: Hands free access to blueprints/manuals

Managing and Securing Wearables
20
#WYODMaaS360 @MaaS360
Managing Wearables
• No management solutions exist today • Diversity in OS types could make direct
management troublesome • Manage the connected device, not the
wearable • Containerized solutions • Be aware of what data can “leak” to a
wearable device • Protect your corporate data
21
#WYODMaaS360 @MaaS360
Wearable Device Security
• Built in security very limited • Jailbroken/Rooted devices are at
higher risk • Third party apps that increase out of
box functionality • Biggest source of potential data
leaks: notification and Email/Calendar contact
• Open to hacking
22
#WYODMaaS360 @MaaS360
Wearables in the Enterprise – Are they Ready?
• Enterprise benefits of wearable device is very limited today
• “Accept” versus “adopt” – The first is happening now
• Users want to use wearables to access their personal data on a device
• Security issues can be minimized with BYOD/MDM/Containerized solutions
23

Future Outlook
24
#WYODMaaS360 @MaaS360
Predicting the Future of Wearables
25
12-18 Months
Platforms for managing wearables emerge Enterprise usefulness reaches point where companies see benefit
12 Months
Fitness only devices start to phase out First enterprises begin to try wearables
Companies begin expressing desire to control
6 Months
Second generation watches Early consumer adoption into enterprise continues
