Through people, one obtains:• Knowledge (social, medical, religious, technical, etc)• Wealth, through their labor• A social safety net; people who can help in times of need• Status (one becomes a grown woman or man through

having children)

But relationships also incur:• Obligations and favors• Potential risk of other people hurting you (witchcraft, etc);

the closer they are, the more they can hurt you
