• Tuesday, May 19th –ABE Managers who have teachers participating in LaGuardia's College and Career Pathways Institute (CCPI) are invited for lunch and presentations from 12:00-3:00 at MDE in room CC-16.

• Wednesday, May 20th-ABE Managers in Workforce Service Areas 12, 6, 5 (Anoka County, Southwest Minnesota and Central Minnesota) should have received an invitation to attend a workshop in Monticello regarding the Disability Employment Initiative grant.

Grant: Sector Partnership National Emergency Grants

Funds will also be used to provide services such as:

• Comprehensive skills assessments, intensive coaching, relocation assistance, and other short-term, specialized services culminating in direct job placement;

• Short-term training and work-based learning opportunities such as OJT leading to employment; and

• Accelerated skills training, with a focus on work-based training that leads to industry-recognized credentials and employment such as registered apprenticeship.

• Well-articulated career pathways that move learners directly into in demand occupations

• Competency-based programs that give participants credit for skills they have already developed and allow participants to move through coursework based on mastery of skills

• Innovative programs, such as coding bootcamps, that prepare those will little technical know-how to get entry- to mid-level jobs in software development in less than six months

Grants: Health Professions Opportunity Grants

… established by the Affordable Care Act of 2010 (ACA) to provide training programs in high-demand health care professions to Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) recipients and other low-income individuals. In addition to occupational training, HPOG programs include pre-training academic and support services to improve the success of program participants. Grant: First in the World

Program Description

The First in the World (FITW) Program will provide grants to institutions of higher education to spur the development of innovations that improve educational outcomes and make college more affordable for students and families, and to develop an evidence base of effective practices. We encourage applicants to partner with public and private institutions and agencies that can assist the applicant to achieve the goals of the project.

The FY 2015 FITW grant application is available in Grants.gov. Application deadline: June 30, 2015.

Three FY 2015 FITW Webinars: (1) May 14, 2015; (2) May 15, 2015; (3) May 19, 2015. Each webinar starts at 3:00 p.m. EDT and should last 1.5 hours.
