Welcome

The Weald of Kent is a beautifully maintained 18-hole parkland golf course and hotel set in rolling Kent countryside with far reach-

ing views, just a short drive from Maidstone and Ashford.

With many elevations, lakes and hazards, the golf course is designed to challenge the most confi-dent of players, but the inviting, wide fairways are forgiving to the golfing beginner, too. The course suits all levels of play and is open all year round to members, visitors and hotel residents.

We are, however, much more than just a pic-turesque golfing destination. The substantial clubhouse with its views over the lakes and course features a bar, restaurant, function suites, conference rooms and a large patio area.

With our 19-room lodge-style hotel just 100 metres from the clubhouse, we are the perfect choice for weddings, functions, private dining, conferences, golf breaks and corporate, charity and society golf days.

Our facilities are open to the general public and visitors are always welcome. We serve food all day, every day, and are particularly proud of our Sunday carvery.

We are an accessible rural retreat for business or leisure just 12 minutes from the M20 motorway, an hour from London and 40 minutes from the Channel Tunnel.

The Golf Course

Set in picturesque countryside in the heart of Kent, our course is a challenge to golfers of all abilities.

Our wide fairways are quite forgiving, but there are lakes and ditches to catch out the unwary and water comes in to play at some stage on all but four of the holes. There are also the strategically-positioned bunkers to contend with and the greens which are true but fast.

Featuring par 5s to begin and finish the front nine, the course plays 6,310 yards off the back tees, yet has a testing par of just 70, which is also the Standard Scratch Score.

Our greenkeeping team work tirelessly to keep the greens, tees and fairways in excellent condi-tion and we are proud of the fact we have never used any temporary greens or synthetic winter tees since our opening in 1991.

Additional facilities include a practice putting green, short game practice area, with bunkers and full USGA specification green, teaching area and practice driving nets adjacent to the first tee.

Tour the Course

A visit to Weald of Kent Golf Course, Hotel and Business Centre is something to savour. We promise you will be in for a

treat and to ensure you enjoy your round to the fullest, take a moment to read our course guide with helpful tips from Jacques Gous, our Head Professional, to ensure you score well and avoid the pitfalls which lie in wait for the unwary.

Hole 1, 501 yards, par 5

A fairly generous par 5 to begin. Three solid iron shots should set you up for an opening par. A greenside bunker to the left awaits your approach.


A lengthy par 4 for the average golfer. A solid tee shot positioned to the right-hand side of the fair-way will set up an easier approach to the green. Be careful for out of bounds left and long on your second shot.


Position your tee shot to the right-hand side of the fairway and this will open up a well-guarded green for your second with water to the left and sand to the right.


Club selection off the tee is very important as the ditch does come into play. A long iron off the tee short of the trouble is the safer option. On your second shot be aware of the greenside bunker short left of the green.

A straight par 4 where the two large trees to the left and right of the fairway will catch any stray tee shots. A well-protected green awaits your second shot.


A demanding par 3 where a straight tee shot between the two trees is the only way to find this green. The two bunkers to the left and slope to the right make this a tough par if you fail to hit the green.


A dog leg to the left par 4 with out of bounds on the left for your tee shot. Be careful of the fairway bunker awaiting an under-clubbed second shot short right of the green.


An uphill par 3 with a two-tier green awaiting a well-struck tee shot. Hit one more club than usual. There are bunkers to both the left and right of the green to catch any wayward shots.


A dog leg par 5 to the left. A long iron or fairway wood aimed over the white marker post will leave you in position A to make a steady par. Don’t be greedy as out of bounds, the ditch and lake will catch any misplaced shots.


A long, uphill par 4 awaits you here. A good solid drive up the left-hand side is ideal. The greenside bunker to the right will catch any pushed approach shot.

A driveable par 4 with bunkers strategically placed to catch the unwary. For most a mid iron to the middle of the fairway leaves a short second for an easy par.


Par 4 dog leg to the right. Here long hitters should be careful of the fairway bunker on the right-hand side. A good tee shot down the left opens up the green. Care should be taken on your second shot here, as missing this green makes for a tough par.


A short par 3 where taking one club less than the yardage indicates should help find the putting surface. If you miss this green long or right you will face a difficult chip to a tough green.


A dog leg par 4 to the right where positioning of your tee shot is vital. A very tough sloping green from front to back awaits your second shot. The green is guarded by bunkers to the left and right.

This par 4 dog leg to the left requires a bit of decision making as a couple of ponds cross the fairway halfway to the green. A bunker short right of the green will gobble up an under-clubbed second shot.

Hole 16, 170 yards, par 3A good par 3 which will test your club selection as water awaits anything short. If in doubt, take one more club.


A short par 4 with a dog leg to the left. There is very little trouble off the tee, so try to hug the left-hand side of the fairway to leave a shorter second shot and avoid bringing the greenside bunker into play on the right.


A straight, downhill par 4 to finish your round. Be aware of the ditch crossing the fairway from left to right on your tee shot. The lake behind the green awaits an over-hit second shot.

Visitors

Visitors are always welcome at the Weald of Kent to play the 18-hole par-70 course weekdays and weekends. It is advisable

to book a tee-time with the Pro Shop in advance of your visit to avoid disappointment. We have wonderful facilities both on and off the course, so please come in after your round to sample all that’s on offer, as the golf is only part of the WoK experience.

Choose to play either 9 or 18 holes, and we offer a special twilight rate for those able to play later in the day when the course is less busy.

If you visit our website, you will often find discount vouchers offering even greater value for money.

Although handicap certificates are not mandatory, we do prefer golfers to be of a sufficient standard for them to be able to enjoy their round and for them not to inconvenience other players when out on the course.

We are a modern, progressive club, but we ask visitors to adhere to the normal standards of dress and golfing etiquette, both on and off the course.

Our head professional at the Weald of Kent golf course is Jacques Gous, whose innovative golf school has gained a grow-

ing reputation as the place to come to learn the game.

Jacques’ unique style has helped thousands of golfers to blossom and his hands-on approach has brought understanding to many who thought the game might be beyond them.

His method of teaching is focused on the needs of the individual player. First he gets to better understand the golfer’s needs and aspirations, then gets to work on helping achieve them at our outstanding practice facility.

Jacques tailors his teaching to correspond with the golfer’s goals, learning style, physical capabili-ties and practice time. But he always starts with the fundamentals as without these a player will never have a truly repeating swing and thus leave himself prone to frustrating inconsistency.

The Clubhouse

The Waterside Restaurant and Bar is situated in the main clubhouse overlooking our beau-tiful lakes and 18-hole golf course.

It is a great place to meet before or after a round of golf and ideal for casual dining with friends, family or colleagues.

An extensive bar menu offering tasty snacks is served all day from 11.30am, while for those look-ing for a more substantial meal, the restaurant has a reputation in its own right for filling, wholesome, quality food featuring fresh produce and generous portions.

The registrar will be booked with Kent County Council by us and then on the day the representa-tives will arrive just before the guests in order to complete the relevant pre-wedding paperwork.

Our charge for an in-house wedding ceremony, in either the Lakeside or Waterside suites, includes the set up/dismantling of the room for the ceremony, pedestal flowers, table flowers and all administration charges.

There is a separate fee for the Registrar which is payable directly to Kent County Council and details can be discussed at your initial meet-ing with them following receipt of our booking confirmation.

The function suite can be hired for the exclusive use of your party for the duration of the wedding breakfast and throughout the evening. Discos and live music can play through to 12.30am and your private bar will remain open until midnight.

Yours will be the only wedding reception that we cater for on the day, so you will be assured of our full and best attention at all times. Our 19-room Headcorn Lodge Hotel is also available for exclu-sive use, subject to availability.

Conference and Wedding Facilities

Whatever the size of your business meeting, seminar, conference or wedding, the Weald of Kent has a

room which fits the bill perfectly.

Our main building has four air-conditioned confer-ence rooms, mainly on ground floor level with natural light and views over the Weald of Kent golf course and lakes.

The Lakeside Room is a larger square room suit-able for up to 130 delegates. It can be accessed from its own entrance and has glass frontage with views towards the 9th green and lake.

The Waterside Room is positioned on the corner of the building with glass frontage on two sides, offering panoramic views over the golf course and lakes, direct access to the patio area and is suit-able for up to 70 delegates.

The Lakeside and Waterside Room Combined Package gives space and flexibility for up to 200 delegates with the advantages of natural light, stunning views, separate entrance and facilities.

The Weald Room is ideal for training courses and smaller meetings of up to 50 delegates, it has natural light and access to its own patio area.

The Ridge Room, situated on the first floor, has been recently fully refurbished to a high standard and is a well proportioned room for up to 150 delegates.

At the Weald of Kent we are offering a range of festive events throughout December, from informal dinners, family lunches,

business lunches and evening events to our renowned Party Nights.

Party Nights are not to be missed and are ideal for groups of four or more. Enjoy a three-course Christmas meal followed by entertainment from our fantastic cabaret artiste Charlie Francis, after which you can dance the night away to our resident DJ.

The Christmas dining menu is available for lunch and dinner for parties of between 10 and 180. You can be served in the restaurant or a private room and it is the perfect choice if you prefer a party without live entertainment.

From Maidstone

Take the A229 (Hastings Road) out of the town centre. Follow A229 to the Wheatsheaf junction with A274 (signposted Tenterden). Take the A274 left-hand lane passing through Sutton Valence and on towards Headcorn. The Weald of Kent is approximately 2 miles on the left.

From the M20 motorway

Leave at junction 8 signposted to Maidstone and at the roundabout take the 1st exit onto the A20 Ashford Road signposted to Lenham. Follow the A20 taking the 2nd exit at the roundabout still signposted to Lenham and at the 3rd roundabout take the 2nd exit onto Penfold Hill (B2163) sign-posted to Leeds Castle. Keep to the B2163 and at the crossroads turn left onto the A274 Maid-stone Road, which is signposted to Tenterden. Once you have passed through Sutton Valence and on towards Headcorn, the Weald of Kent is approximately 2 miles on the left.
