Jeffrey L. Roquemore Artistic Director
Jeff retired after serving 16 years at Zanesville High School as band
director and music department coordinator from 1988-2004. At ZHS, he was in
charge of the concert band, wind ensemble, jazz band and pep band in addition to
the marching band, which had an unbroken record of 16 appearances at state
finals. Previously, Jeff held band director positions at Philo HS, Hamlin (WVA)
HS, Fort Frye HS, and, most recently, Custer County HS in Westcliffe, Colorado.
He earned a Bachelor’s Degree at Ohio University in 1974, Master’s Degree in
Music Education at Marshall University in 1981, and a Master’s Degree in Public
School Administration at Ohio University in 1992. He has served the Ohio
Music Education Association (OMEA) as district secretary/treasurer, president-
elect, and president; hosting high school large group, middle school solo &
ensemble, regional orchestra, local marching band, and district honor band/choir
events. His professional organizations include: OMEA, American School
Band Directors Association, Phi Beta Mu, Omicron Delta Kappa, and Phi Mu
Alpha Sinfonia. Jeff was director of the Muskingum College Spirit Band 2004-
2006. He resides in Dresden with his wife, Jennifer.
Dave Schubach – Writer/composer/arranger
Zanesville Native David Schubach arranged the Wattsonian March which we are
performing this evening. David is based both in Los Angeles and Ohio. His
original musical compositions have been performed by symphonic orchestras, jazz
bands, and solo artists. Last season Schubach was the musical director and
producer for a gala featuring pop stars Michele Phillips (Mammas & The Papas)
and Maria Conchita Alonso. Jazz vocalist Tierney Sutton recently recorded
Schubach’s song Tell Me Now It’s Christmas. This summer his musical
arrangements are being featured by the Lake String Quartet at the Garand Lodge
of Yellowstone National Park. In Columbus, Ohio he is often the featured pianist
with the Brunetto Big Band. His TV fact-based movie The Lee Donoho Story was
optioned for production. Next season the Zanesville Community theatre will
produce Schubach’s drama Back Words.
Edward E. Watts – Composer Wattsonian March
Born July 20, 1876 in Crooksville Ohio. At the age of 16 he was a member of the
Bauer Band of Zanesville. He was later a member and director of the Seventh
Regiment Band of the Ohio National Guard. He also played first chair soloist
cornet in the Amrou Grotto Band and held the same position with the Armco Band
which he later directed. Also a retired member of the Zanesville Memorial
Concert Band, he wrote and composed music.
