Everyone I've met has a very strong opinion on their favorite season. Some say summer be- cause the weather is warm, others say winter because of the holidays. Whoever names fall the favorite says so because of sweater weather and pumpkin spice lattes. But there is so much more to fall than that, and there is so much to be happy for in fall. Here are some things to look forward to during fall: 1. One More Hour of Sleep Daylight savings! Yeah, I know it’ll be annoying to have to double check yourself on what time it is the first few days, but we do get an extra hour of sleep! Who doesn’t need another hour of sleep? You’re lying if you say you don’t. (And if you really don’t need another hour of sleep, please tell me your secret.) 2. Baked Goods Nothing says fall like a good apple crumble. Or pumpkin bread. Or cinnamon spice cake. Or pumpkin pie. Now that the weather is starting to cool down, the perfect thing to warm you up is a nice fresh-baked spicy orange cranberry muffin or pumpkin chocolate chip cookie. It’s al- ways nice to have the house warm with the smell of freshly baked treats. 3. Staying Inside After all that baking, you’re not going to want to leave the coziness of your house. So curl up with a nice mug of tea (or hot cider, or hot chocolate, or seasonal coffee) and sit inside by the fire all bundled up in a blanket. Watch your favorite movies, write in a journal about your thoughts on the season, or think of more fun things you want to bake. 4. Outdoor Activities Just because there’s a chill in the air doesn’t mean you have to stay inside. There are plenty of outdoor seasonal activities to do! Go to the pumpkin patch to make your place look seasonally festive. Take advantage of the leaves too. Sure, it’s work to have to rake up the rainbow of leaves that have fallen, but it’s all worth it to jump in the pile afterwards and see the beauty of it swirling all around you. 6. Seasonal Cooking There’s more to fall foods than just baking. (I mean if you want to just eat treats all the time, I see nothing wrong with that.) Summer meant light and refreshing food out on the grill. Now it’s time for some hearty food to make you feel warm and cozy. Savory vegetable stews and a chunky piece of warm bread is a go-to on a chilly day. (How about a bowl of chili when it’s raining or snowing?) And who could forget Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is the Holy Grail of fall foods, covering the whole autumnal spectrum from cranber- ries, to mashed potatoes, to pie. Man I am getting hungry writing this this story!!! FALL IS IN THE AIR….

Everyone I've met has a very strong opinion on their favorite season. Some say summer be-

cause the weather is warm, others say winter because of the holidays. Whoever names fall the

favorite says so because of sweater weather and pumpkin spice lattes. But there is so much

more to fall than that, and there is so much to be happy for in fall. Here are some things to

look forward to during fall:

1. One More Hour of Sleep

Daylight savings! Yeah, I know it’ll be annoying to have to double check yourself on what time

KNUDSON NEWS

This is absolutely, positively, without-a-doubt my favorite time of year.

Part of the allure of living in this part of the world is that we have four dis-

tinct seasons and we are always ready for the next one to arrive. This is nev-

er more true than in the Fall. The smoke has lifted and temperatures are fall-

ing. The tamaracks and aspens begin competing to display the most vivid

yellows. Elderberries are bright blue against a spectrum of yellow, red and

orange foliage. Apples, berries, and rose hips hang like Christmas orna-

ments. Every color on the spectrum is on display. Meanwhile, the animals

prepare for and will adapt to the inevitability of winter. Nature is showing

us how to manage through change in spectacular style.

Anyone who knows me will tell you that if I’m not at work, I’m out tromping

through the woods in my corner of Paradise, rain, snow or shine. I have a series of photos taken from the

same vantage point every week over the course of a year. It’s surprising how a few weeks of subtle change

can transform the landscape and it’s never more dramatic and spectacular than right now.

Change - we often hear people say they don’t like change; I disa-

gree. Fall is a perfect example of change that we look forward to

and enjoy. Other examples: graduations, weddings, new babies and

new homes. We plan for, work toward and celebrate these changes.

What we don’t like are surprises that force us from the comfort of

our routines. We grumble the most about minor inconveniences that

will mean nothing in a year or even a week (If we even remember

what we were grumbling about).

Surprises are, well, surprises. If we knew what was coming, we

wouldn’t be surprised. But a little preparation can go a long way.

So get your home and vehicle ready for the coming cold weather

then go play outside.

Awesome DIY Paint Projects You Can do This Month Accent Walls are Always in Style

Everyone knows that accent walls are one of the easiest ways to transform any room with color. Adding an accent wall is a simple way to add an accent color to a tired color palette, or add a focal point to a room without any architectural features. Any color can be used to for your accent wall DIY paint project, but be sure to plan out your color palette first so that you can tie everything together.

Ceiling Could be the Perfect Surface for Color

Painting over your plain white ceiling is a subtle way to add color to any room. Dining rooms are the perfect spot for ceiling color, especially with a trayed ceiling or decorative molding that separates the new paint color from the walls. Though painting your ceiling can be a DIY painting project, if you're not sure you have the right tools (or enough pa-tience to paint a ceiling,) you might want to leave it to the professionals.

Boost Your Curb Appeal With a Colorful Front Door

Updating your front door with paint color is the top curb appeal booster for your home. Front door color inspiration can come from your garden, your home's architectural style, or your interior decor. Once you've chosen your color, you'll want to make sure you have the tools and the instructions for this DIY project before you begin.

Give Inexpensive Furniture a Designer

Look With a Paint DIY

Your furniture doesn't have to be an heir-loom or designer piece to be stylish. Lami-nate furniture can be transformed with paint. You can paint your laminate furni-ture in one great color, try a color-block design, or even a pattern.

Turn That Tiny Bathroom Into a

Glamorous Powder Room Most two-story homes have a small bath-room downstairs that was designed for con-venience. Though this bathroom may not be used exclusively by guests, there is no reason not to express your dramatic side by creating a stunning powder room. The fun of decorating this tiny bathroom is that it is the one room in your home that doesn't have to "look bigger." You can choose whatever paint color you like as long as you have the right lighting. Powder rooms are where you can express your style without a thought to the rest of the house. Choose a favor-ite color, replace a boring mirror with a pretty framed one, and add decorative accents for a simple bathroom makeover.

Let The Games Begin! By Alex Rhees

This year, Knudson Lum-ber was kind enough to sponsor a slow pitch softball team for its em-ployees, and while we did not have a huge amount of success, we did have a ton of fun.

The Kittitas Valley Softball Association has been expand-ing in recent years. This year they had 8 teams sign-up and still have plenty of room next year for more teams. If you enjoy softball or baseball at all, I encourage you to join the Facebook group “Ellensburg Slow Pitch Softball” and there you can find all of the information you will need, and an abundance of people excited to answer your questions.

If you’re not into softball, the Ellensburg City Parks and Recreations has created a new adult sport program with several sports they are trying out.

The list includes:

- Adult Coed Volleyball Leagues - Fall & Spring - Adult Coed Indoor Soccer League – Fall (season in progress) - Adult Open 3-on-3 Basketball League - Win-ter - Adult Coed Dodgeball League - Winter - Adult Coed Kickball League - Spring - Kittitas Valley Softball Association – Summer

There is a Facebook group “Ellensburg Adult Sports” that is filled full of information and sign-up sheets. You can also go to the City of El-lensburg Parks and Recreation website for more information. I know I will be playing some 3-on-3 basketball or dodge ball this year, so if any of these programs sound fun, get a team together and come on out!

7. Cozy Clothes

It might sound silly, but getting dressed up for fall is wonderful.

Layering sweaters and scarves and boots is so cozy, you can’t help

but feel happy as you walk around in the crisp fall air. And now

that summer is over, ladies you don’t have to worry about shaving

your legs. Layer up!

8. Beauty of Nature

There are so many fun outdoor activities to do in fall, but as

you're busy doing all this fun stuff, it’s easy to forget how beauti-

ful your surroundings are. Take a moment to look up at the warm

foliage and the rainbow of trees. Nature is at its peak and the

transformative beauty is everywhere. Don't forget to notice it.

Fall is the time to be happy and excited for it all.

Speaking of excitement, Knudson Lumber has a few exciting

events going on over the next couple of months. Small Business

Saturday is on November 24th and we will be celebrating by offer-

ing Knudson Kash to our customers on all purchases. A few days

later is our Holiday Ladies Night on November 28th. This event is

SO much fun and if you love shopping, hot deals, giveaways, oh

and yummy FOOD as much as I do, then this is the event for

you!!! Before the dust really has time to settle, it will Birdhouse

Days on December 1st! Be sure to bring your kids (11 yrs & young-

er) to this fun-filled event where your child can build a birdhouse

and then get a picture with Santa!

There are many reasons to be happy every day in life, and there is

no time like the present to start appreciating it. Fall can be full of

stress, from school, to work, to dealing with the end of summer.

Take the time to take a break from the stress and enjoy the good-

ness that surrounds you, even if its just noticing the little things.

There are really are so many happy things to look forward to. I

want to wish everyone a happy upcoming holiday season.

God Bless, Cheryl
