The most important curriculum at the Garuna Christian Schools is teaching the students the love (Garuna) that Christ has for them. We Invite You to Partner with Garuna! Did You Know? Garuna was started in 2001 to provide Lutheran training and support to the indigenous peoples in southeast Asia who desired to grow in their faith and to evangelize in their own countries as they establish Lutheran congregations and schools. Garuna’s primary mission strategy is the training of local, national leaders through the Luther Institute-SE Asia (LISA program, development of the national Lutheran churches, and ministry to children and families through the Garuna Christian Schools. The Garuna Foundation has a strategic bias for training and mentoring indigenous southeast Asian church leaders to achieve the greatest impact, long-term sustainability, cost effectiveness, and cultural integrity. Garuna’s primary work is in southeast Asia, impacting five (5) countries and a number of people groups. These countries include Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, and Myanmar. The Need in Southeast Asia In this part of southeast Asia, there are approximately 600 million people and only 2% claim to be Christian. There is a growing openness to the gospel in this part of the world. Luther Institute-Southeast Asia (LISA) (Theological Training) LISA is a ministry of the Garuna Foundation. It is a non-residential curriculum which provides theological training for approximately 90 students in 5 countries and many ethnic groups. Students study to be pastors, teachers, deaconesses, or lay leaders. It takes approximately 4 years to complete the coursework and practical field work assignments. This enables the students to remain in their own communities as they continue their ministry or work during their years of LISA training. Garuna Christian Schools (Cambodia) There are six (6) Garuna Christian Schools in Cambodia, serving over 1000 students in grades K-6. Two more schools will be opened soon. The children in the schools learn about Jesus each day. Most have never heard of Jesus before. The students also learn Math, English, and Khmer reading/writing in a nurturing and safe environment. There have been more than 250 baptisms at the Garuna Christian Schools. There are child and teacher sponsorship opportunities if you would like to sponsor a “Garuna Kid “or teacher. Cambodian students complete a LISA course on Luther’s Small Catechism. Garuna’s principals, Bible teachers, pastors, and leaders meet regularly for ministry planning, prayer, and study.
