About Miley Cyrus Miley Cyrus’ recent music video ‘We Can’t Stop’
has recently caused people to have a different
opinion on her. This is because of the way she is
dressed and acting within her video, for example
twerking on camera when her audience of
children from a young age.
Also something that has caused different opinions
on her is from her new video ‘Wrecking ball’
where she is swinging naked on a wrecking ball
because people aren’t used to seeing this kind of
thing
How is Miley Cyrus Post-
Modern?
Not only Is Miley’s music videos post modern but
she is post modern herself in the way she puts
herself into society with the clothes she wears
etc.
Also she has a very post modern hairstyle
because girls don’t normally go for that short of a
haircut as it is seen to be boyish.
Within this music video ‘We cant stop’ Miley Cyrus wears a lot of white clothing, this
connotates the innocence and purity of what she used to be when she was seen as
Hannah Montana (the good girl). She wants to make it look less innocent since she
has grown up and shaved her hair off. The red lipstick brings out the sexual/raunchy
side to Miley that she is proving throughout the music video, it also makes the white
outfits look less pure than what they should be. She is wearing little clothes as
possible in each scene as it shows off her figure, it highlights that she is going
against the norm and doesn’t want to be that good girl anymore that children used to
look up to.
The gold chains and jewellery that she is wearing round her neck and on her wrists
are going against her normal look making her stand out in this video from any of her
other videos. This is making her audience question what she is really like and why is
she acting out of character when really this is who she is now but they are just not
used to her.
When you get to the scene where Miley and her fellow cast members are dancing
round with big teddy bears on their back its not seen as normal and you would class
this as post modern.
Throughout the music video, the director Diane Martel, used a vary of shots, when
Miley is singing towards the camera she uses close ups so that you can see the
emotion within her face and the faces she pulls once she has sung, to add in a sexual
feel towards the audience for example when she sticks her tongue out.
However she also includes a lot of long shots to show the setting and clothing that
Miley is wearing because it highlights her style and how she is. It also shows the way
she dancers and how she acts round other people, some people may not see this as
acceptable because she is quiet a raunchy character and people don’t want there
children seeing this sort of behaviour.
