I had one goal in mind when I declared my major as Industrial Design my sophomore year in collage: go to Kenya. The Industrial Design department at my school had a semester long project dedicated to working on a variety of problems that Kenyans face ranging from travel, energy, and water conservation. After working on a water filtration project for the spring semester of my junior year, I was finally able to go to Ndabibi, Kenya in May 2014. Unfortunately, two days before we arrived, a terrorist attack took place in Nairobi, killing over 70 people. This did not stop me. Nothing would.

We Are Wanderers

Traveling to Kenya was the first time I would be traveling overseas, and more importantly the first time I would be traveling without my family or friends. It was without a doubt the best learning experience I have ever had. One of the best lessons I learned was that having no set schedule can not only create a better experience, but can lead to astonishing discoveries that may never have happened if a strict agenda were in place. We Are Wanderers is a book dedicated to my time spent in Ndabibi, Kenya, and the extraordinary people I had the privilege of meeting.

The following pages document my time in Kenya.

I interviewed various Kenyans about their water and energy consumption and their knowledge about water sanitation in order to get a better understanding of the issues.
