FUNDAMENTAL DOCTRINE

The basic and fundamental doctrine of this organization shall be the Bible standard of full salvation, which is repentance, baptism in water by immersion in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and the baptism of the Holy Ghost with the initial sign of speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance. We shall endeavor to keep the unity of the Spirit until we all come into the unity of the faith, at the same time admonish-ing all brethren that they shall not contend for their different views to the disunity of the body.

Matthew 26:6 Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,

7 There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat.

8 But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste?

9 For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor.

10 When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me.

11 For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.

12 For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial.

13 Verily I say unto you, Whereso-ever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a me-morial of her.

It must have appeared to be a very strange and awkward moment for a woman to enter a room, walk over to a man, unveil a precious container, open it, and then pour its contents all over the man’s head. If the “Polaroid” would have

captured the picture, I’m sure there would have appeared several dropped jaws that evidenced surprise and wonder at what just took place. They began to speak up, and started criticizing the woman’s ac-tion. Their thinking was much too prac-tical and, may I add, too “hypocritical” to allow such a gesture of love and worship to go by without making some kind of judgment about her motive. Surely, there could have been a better use of this “pre-cious ointment” than just pouring it out. “Why, this ointment could have been sold and the money given to the poor,” was their justified comment. I’m sure that the disciples felt they were right, and the woman was wrong. I’m sure they thought she meant well, but was sorely distorted and unnecessary in her action. What we don’t read in the scriptural narrative is that the woman ever says one word in her defense. She makes no apology for her displayed act of worship. She does not cease pouring out all of the ointment while the others are murmur-ing. She simply ignores their words of criticism and fulfills her purpose in what she is doing.

Jesus then responds to his disciples’ criticism of this woman’s actions. He un-derstood her action and calls it a “good work.” He knows for what purpose this action has been done to Him. He knows that she is displaying her sacrifice in giv-ing and that her display of sacrifice is preparing His body for burial. The Lord literally rebukes the critics, and praises the woman’s act, to the point that He states that this woman will always be re-membered for her displayed act of com-mitted sacrifice.

I address today those that are being taunted and ridiculed for their outward and inward stand for holiness in this last hour of time. The critics are howling about how unnecessary it is to display a

“And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you:

but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power

from on high.”

Luke 24:49

Knowing the Purpose Silences the Criticismmodest approach in our outward display of commitment to God. Those that are claiming to be His disciples are “circling the wagons” of criticism of those that desire to please God, stating that this outward display of modesty is just “old fashioned”.... it’s “legalism”.... it’s not necessary and it is rejected by all those that really “know” how worship should be shown.

May I remind anyone reading this article that those of us who wish to please God and want to show our devoted love to Him recognize the very “purpose” of an outward as well as an inward display of separation in a world that negatively judges and criticizes all that are different than the acceptable “norm.” I make NO apologies for my desire to please Him! Like the woman that carried the alabas-ter box into the house that day, I have no words to try to defend or argue with my critics. I know there is purpose in what course of action that I believe God’s Word deems very clear.

I Peter 1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;

16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

II Corinthians 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,

18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

Hebrews 12:14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and

thereby many be defiled; 16 Lest there be any fornicator, or

profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.

I don’t know if the woman under-stood what her act was representing. All I know is that she showed forth her will-ing sacrifice and in so doing she received criticism, but her action spoke louder than the criticism she received, and she ultimately received the result of her act and that being her testimony is still be-ing given right up to this very article. I just simply recognize that “knowing the purpose” for doing what we do, silences the criticism! I know, that I know, what I know, and though I don’t understand it all, I know that it is all for a purpose in God’s Kingdom. I know that outward holiness is NOT just about “culture.” I know that it is NOT just for Bible days, but it is as relevant for our day as it ever has been. Stand, child of God! Keep pouring out your life upon HIM, regard-less of the criticism that you may receive. This is NO time to step back from God’s holy purposes for your life!

It’s time to keep living, keep giv-ing, keep praising, and remain faithful to God’s Holy principles. Remember... for you and me... His blessing comes when we hear Him say… “Well done, thou good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21). So, in the midst of criticism that comes against you for your stand in this hour, just remember in your worship... just keep pouring it on HIM.

Released with purpose. Released with passion. Released with power. The Wisconsin District Hyphen Commit-tee courageously accomplished this conference’s subtitle. As a 24-year old recent college graduate and newlywed, I felt released with purpose, passion and power because of the relevant and empowering messages at this confer-ence.

On Friday evening, Midwest Re-gional Director for Hyphen, Rev. Joel Grey, launched a wonderful vision for Wisconsin Hyphen - to be courageous and reclaim ministry and anointing. Hebrews 12:1 says that “Since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with persever-ance the race marked out for us.” Bro. Grey explained that great saints of faith that have gone before us (Paul, Martin Luther, William J. Seymour, etc.) are cheering on today’s young adults as we throw off hindrances and run with per-severance. Bro. Joel Grey spoke about the apathy of this generation of young adults and how they are living out the famous John Mayer song, “Waiting on the world to change,” before they feel

hyphen conference 2012: courageous

the need to get involved in the work of God.

“Often in the quest to define a role for them-selves, young adults place the church and even God on a shelf. The intention is to resume those relationships at a later date, but roughly 60 per-cent never do. The church needs young adults who are willing to make commitments and stand strong in those commitments. The church needs this generation,” said Bro. Joel Grey.

In Saturday’s Morning Manna, the Wisconsin Hyphen Coordinator, Rev. Tim Peters, opened with an encour-agement from Joshua 1:7 to be “strong and very courageous” when we left the conference.

“I would like all of our young adults to realize the importance of their walk with God and the fulfillment of the calling that God has on their life. You are the ‘hinge pin’ for what God is trying to do in your circle of influence.

You have a responsibility to do that which God has called you to do, that the kingdom of God might grow,” said Tim Peters.

The teaching in each breakout ses-sion on Saturday was relevant and con-victing. Rev. Rick Bailey spoke about stewardship and managing time, mon-ey and stuff. Wisconsin District Youth President, Rev. Tim Vik, spoke about balance and prioritizing family, work and ministry. Sis. Karen Bailey spoke about the pilgrim mentality vs. mate-rialism and how we define ourselves in today’s culture.

The breakout session that had the biggest impact on my life was Rev. Joel Grey’s session about “God’s plan/will for my life.”

Bro. Grey contended that finding God’s plan for your life is a common question among young adults. During the time of transition and decision-making in a young adult life, there is a natural fear that a mistake in judg-ment could lead to being outside of the will of God. To rise above this fear, it is important that our perspective shift from the question, “What is God’s plan

Calvar y Apostolic Church, of Clintonville, hosted an “Archaeology Symposium” on Saturday, March 31. Three separate speakers from their congre-gation presented, covering the following topics: “The Dead Sea Scrolls,” “How We Got the Bible,” and “Foot-prints of the Messiah.”

“The Dead Sea Scrolls” was taught by Bro. Patrick Kloehn. “The greatest dis-

Archaeology Symposiumcovery of our time.” The scrolls were found by shep-herds in Qumran (east of Jerusalem) in 1946. These were originally recorded around the time of Jesus and still hold significance for us today. They are the oldest surviving Bible manuscripts ever discovered. He also dis-cussed who wrote them and how they relate to the Bible and us today.

Sis. Leslie Berg shared the importance and relevance

of the word of God in “How We Got the Bible.” God is the author. She discussed who penned the words, and the time frame of when each t e s t a m e n t was recorded. The Old Tes-tament was originally writ-ten in Hebrew and Aramaic and the New Testament was written in Greek. The Bible was translated into many languages throughout the years. Some lost their lives for translating God’s Word. Sis. Berg also discussed when and where different versions of the Bible origi-nated, and highlighted key points regarding several dif-ferent versions from over the years and some that we use today. She encourages all to have a “high respect” for the Word.

Pastor Narlock present-ed a PowerPoint presenta-tion about the “Footprints of the Messiah.” He took “first century facts” and explained their “21st century relevance.” He encouraged all to “follow the footprints” placed for us by Jesus Himself. The Old Testament contains “over 300 prophecies detailing the coming Messiah.” Bro. Nar-lock shared the probability

of one man fulfilling even some of these prophecies as astronomical. There are many scriptures relating to the life and death of Jesus show-ing that the “God” of the Old Testament truly is Jesus Christ! He ended by talking about the “return of Christ to rule.” For every proph-ecy of Christ’s first coming, there are eight of His second coming. The Word is more readily available to us today, and we will be held account-able to study it and be ready for His return.

We want to express our thanks to Sis. Schumacher for her wonderful and godly leadership over the past 7 years. We wel-come Sis. Hilderbrand to her new posi-tion as Ladies’ Ministry president.

The Wisconsin District Ministers’ Conference took place Tuesday through Thurs-day, March 20-22, 2012 at the Osthoff Resort & Confer-ence Center in Elkhart Lake. Bro. Bruce Howell, UPCI Global Missions Director, was our guest speaker for the conference. His first message was titled, “Until.” A situa-tion may look bad UNTIL God shows

up. He also taught “Keep the Red Cord in the Window.” Don’t stop preaching about Jesus and the essentiality of baptism – keep the red cord in the window. During the ladies’ session, Sis. Howell shared about the Quintes-sential Struggle. We need each other. Don’t isolate yourself and don’t stay quiet

if you see someone else struggling.

Bro. Dale Pace was elected as the new Sun-day School Di-rector. Bro. Ward Rehbein asked that his name not be considered for this election. We thank Bro. Rehbein for his leadership in overseeing great revival in children re-ceiving the baptism of the Holy Ghost in the Sunday School-sponsored children’s ministry at Family Camp and Junior Camp. Bro. Pace has a great vision for the ministry of Sunday School in our state. Bro. Pace needs our support as we near the end of our Save Our Children fund drive for 2012. This important fundraiser is a great help in underwriting the cost of the Children’s Ministry at Family Camp, Junior Camp and the Junior Bible Quiz-zing program. Bro. Geof Albertson was elected as the new Sunday School Secre-tary when Bro. Pace was elected the Di-rector. We pray the Lord’s richest bless-ing and pledge our support to these two brethren as they assume their new roles in the Wisconsin District Sunday School Department.

On Sunday, March 25th, a very special ceremony took place at Parkway Apostolic Church. Led by Don Mallas, Men’s Pastor, a group of between 50 and 60 men came forward to commit their lives to God, their family and each other.

The motivation for the ceremony came from the movie, “Courageous,” which depicted the struggles of four policemen trying to hang on to cour-age, honor, and virtue in a compromis-ing world.

Infused with a resolve to re-conse-crate themselves to God to be the spiri-tual leaders of their families, the men began meeting weekly. They prayed together, worshipped together, shared their lives and opened up their hearts to God’s Word. This culminated in the ceremony that Sunday morning.

Laying the groundwork for what was to take place, Bro. Mallas said for far too long women were forced to carry the weight of the family in order to survive. As a result, today families

The Prophet, the Donkey, and the Trap

Take a jour-ney back in time to the days of Balaam, the prophet. He was used of God, yet he strayed down a path that brought destruc-tion to several thousand people.

Balaam is dead. But his way, error, and doctrine

Author SP TLIGHTlive on. His trap is still set, waiting for its next victim. Peter called it the “way” of Balaam; Jude, the “error” of Balaam; and John, the “doctrine” of Balaam.

Discover how we can arm ourselves to stand against the folly of Balaam in our generation.

In Defense of TruthIt’s time to hear the warning! “We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error”

(1 John 4:6).Today, Satan’s standards for liv-

ing are replacing godly principles, and sinful lifestyles are encouraged to exist through tolerance. As a result, there is a loss of the revelation of Jesus Christ to man-made ideas of an unknowable God. This is pressing in on the Church, so we must sound the alarm.

These last days are a time of great deception. “Winds of doctrine” have fooled many who once had a revelation of Jesus Christ into believing another gospel. Dangerous times are here.

We will pay a heavy price for not

staying alert. Those who do not pay at-tention will drift into false doctrine by seducing spirits, believe a lie, and be damned.

This book looks at this timely and important subject for the Church.

The Original Gospel of Jesus Christ (A Bible Study)

The books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John do not have the New Testament Church estab-lished in them – only the prom-ise that it would come. Jesus always pointed

ahead to a future church that would re-ceive the power to be witnesses of Him and then preach the original Gospel. Where in the New Testament can we find the original Gospel message as it was preached by the Apostles? (Keep in mind: it was the New Testament Church that preached the original Gospel.) The book of Acts is the only place to find how the Gospel of Jesus Christ was originally preached…the Epistles were letters written to the es-tablished churches or individuals in the Church. There is only ONE Gospel of Jesus Christ.

finite judgment, while the other speaks to the willingness to be led.

He encouraged young adults to ap-proach serving God in a holistic way, like the Israelites did in Numbers chapter 9. In this chapter, the Israelites followed the cloud that God set up before the tabernacle. When the cloud moved, they moved. When the cloud stopped, they stopped. We must do more than believe. We must trust and follow God’s lead – the cloud in our life. But following the cloud means that it will affect all aspects of your life. If the cloud hasn’t moved, you continue about your normal routine: make breakfast, go to work, etc. If the cloud has moved, pack up your things

and start following the cloud. You may want the cloud to move or stop, but you must deny yourself and be a follower.

Before the closing worship, Bro. Joel Grey and Bro. Tim Vik indulged the conference with a Q&A wrap-up. Young adults were able to ask the panelists any remaining questions about the topics of the breakout sessions and other life con-cerns.

“One of the valuable things that we learned in the Q&A discussion was how young adults can emigrate their career goals, ministry goals and relationship goals into one encapsulated whole,” said Andrew Grant, Section 4 Hyphen Rep-resentative.

are torn apart by strife with no sense of direction and hope because there is no male role model. God’s Word com-mands men to walk in honor and integ-rity and to embrace the responsibilities as shepherd of their family following in the similitude of Jesus Christ. The call has been sounded for men to stand up and make a difference.

And, for a group of Parkway men, the call was heard and answered. In front of God and their church family as their witnesses, the men alongside their wives (or prospective wives), pledged to abide by the following Resolution:

“I DO solemnly resolve before God to take full responsibility for myself, my wife and my children.

I WILL love them, protect them, serve them, and teach them the Word of God as the spiritual leader of my home.

I WILL be faithful to my wife, to love and honor her, and be will-ing to lay down my life for her as Jesus Christ did for me.

I WILL bless my children and teach them to love God with all of their hearts, all of their minds, and all of their strength.

I WILL train them to honor authority and live responsibly. I WILL confront evil, pursue justice, and love mercy. I WILL pray for others and treat them with kindness, respect and

compassion. I WILL work diligently to provide for the needs of my family. I WILL forgive those who have wronged me and reconcile with

those I have wronged. I WILL learn from my mistakes, repent of my sins, and walk with

integrity as a man answerable to God. I WILL seek to honor God, be faithful to His church, obey His

Before leaving the conference, Joel Grey said, “I’m impressed by the young adults of Wisconsin, and I’m expecting to see great things happen.”

Next year’s conference will be held in March again. Be sure to encourage the young adults at your church to at-tend and be released with purpose, pas-sion and power.

“If you missed this year’s Hyphen Conference, you missed a great time. There was a powerful move of God, and God really ministered to all of us. We left here more courageous, more ready to face the world, more ready to take on the challenges of the world,” said Shane Maki, Section 3 Hyphen Representative.
