CALDWELL, Idaho - Linfield was left still searching for its first win of the 2008-09season following a 79-73 loss to Eastern Oregon during the first day of action atthe Best Western Lady Yote Classic, hosted by the College of Idaho.
Sarah Amina scored 15 points, Makenzie Blythe came off the bench to score 13points and Kelsey Forrest added 11 points and five rebounds. Wildcats centerWhitney Honn had a fine all-around game, scoring eight points while adding sixrebounds, three steals and three assists.
The Wildcats led by as many as nine points in the first half. Amina’s 3-pointer with7:08 left in the period staked Linfield to a 28-19 lead. But the Mountaineers clawedtheir way back, tying the game at 36 on a 3-pointer by Brianna Smith with 15 sec-onds remaining before intermission.
The ‘Cats held the lead again, but only briefly, to begin the second half. After gain-ing the lead back on Salena Leavitt’s jumper at the 17:50 mark, the Mountaineersheld firm grip on the game the rest of the way.
Turnovers were at least partially responsible for Linfield’s undoing. The Wildcatscommitted 25 turnovers to EOU’s 13. The Mountaineers converted 32 points offthose miscues, eventually building leads as large as 17 points in the second half.
Leavitt finished with a game-high 25 points and Ashlee Michelson added 20 forEOU, which improved to 3-1 for the season. Linfield dropped to 0-3.
