WAYNE GARDENS
October 2020
Tenant Council Update
Thank you for everybody who came out to our tenant council meeting last month.
One of the questions asked was about if residents could recommence occasionally
eating in the community room or other shared areas which of course will necessi-
tate removing your mask. The decision was reached that residents may have a snack or enjoy a cup of tea/coffee there with some safety precautions. A mask
must still be worn before and after eat-ing/drinking at your table/seat and any
time up and walking around. We en-courage you to take additional precautions we hope you already are such as wiping down the table and chairs before and af-
ter. We also ask that if you go out there to enjoy a drink/snack with others that you limit the size of your gathering to four.
There should not be more than four per group if some of the members will be eat-ing/drinking. Please also be mindful of the comfort level of other residents who may be higher risk or not comfortable with less than a 6 foot space. We recognize the de-sire to have a change of scenery, especial-ly with cold weather coming but also want
to balance that with continuing safety measures. Food will continue to not be served at events such as BINGO for the
present. Because it does not look like we will be able to have the holiday meals this year if you have ANY idea of activities or events for the holidays please let Lydia
know. We do have some funds budgeted for an event, activities, supplies and would
like to know what you would value.

Wayne Gardens Welcome!
This month we welcome Mr. Ronnie Rivers to Wayne Gar-
dens East! Mr. Rivers is a veteran of the United States Army
and enjoys an active lifestyle including bike riding, hiking, fish-
ing and amusement parks. In fact, he actually held the record
for three years at running track in high school! Mr. Rivers
loves baseball and also cheers for the Eagles and Philadelph-
ia Flyers. When relaxing he enjoys western movies such as
those featuring actors like John Wayne and Clint Eastwood.
Mr. Rivers is outgoing and describes himself as being a good
natured and helpful person. He likes to tell jokes and enjoys
good food. Welcome Ronnie Rivers!

APPRISE Free Medicare Counseling
Are you familiar with Apprise Medicare counselling? This is a free service
offered by the Area Agency on Aging.to seniors 65 and over and disabled
age 64 and younger to help people make Medicare choices and screen for
eligibility in applying for cost saving programs. Due to COVID-19 counsel-
ing this fall will most likely be performed by telephone and providing self-
help tools. Counseling is by appointment only. Some suggested times to
contact APPRISE for their free counseling is 2-3 months prior to retirement
date-pre-retirement planning, if you have recently moved to an area where
coverage may be different, if your financial status has changed, if you have
questions about Medicare plans, coverage and claims or for open enroll-
ment.
Open enrollment for Medicare Advantage Plans (Part C) and prescrip-
tion drug plans (part D) begins October 15th and runs until December
7th. Apprise encourages everyone to confirm that their Advantage
and Prescription plan is still the best fist. (Medicare Supplemental/Medigap
plans do not to be reviewed annually). If you are interested in a free Ap-
prise Mediicare counseling appointment in preparation for open enrollment
it is advised that you make your appointment sooner rather than later as
spots will fill up. You can make the appointment by calling the Franklin
County Area Agency on Aging at 717-263-2153. IF you are having trouble
getting a return call from The Office on Aging your Supportive Service Co-
ordinator or Community Health Worker will be happy to assist you.

October Fresh Express
If you are registered for Fresh Express, ElderShare, or CSFP the
food will be arriving on Tuesday, October 27th at the Valley Ter-
race Community Center. Appointments are necessary in order to
pick up food. Flyers will be delivered to your door with your Oc-
tober pick up time. Due to COVID you must arrive at that specific
time so we can limit how many are in the building at a time.
Masks are also required inside and outside the building. If you
are interested and not signed up for Fresh Express, ElderShare,
or CSFP please see Lydia to sign up or for more information. If
you think you are signed up for Fresh Express but do not receive
your scheduled pickup time by October 16th contact Lydia as she
may have not scheduled you due to not attending several previ-
ous events and will need notified that you plan to attend Octo-
bers.

Maintenance calls-
When calling in a work order, please speak clearly/slowly and provide:
name, address (development name), and issue. Maintenance will return
your call—however, if your phone blocks unknown calls they will not
be able to reach you. Please remove this feature when waiting for a re-
turn call.
Work Orders will be completed in the order they are received unless it
is an emergency that needs completed in 24 hours.
Examples of emergencies are (but not limited to):
Plumbing leaks which could flood the unit or cause damage; Electrical hazards; No
heat; Clogged toilet or clogged tub, if on a weekend and have no second tub and/or
toilet; and completely clogged kitchen sink.
All other work orders will be handled as time permits. Changing light
bulbs, etc. is not considered an emergency—no power or flooding is
considered an emergency.
October BINGO will be Thursday October 15th from 2pm to
3:15. We will require masks be on and worn properly over
mouth and nose and attendance will be limited to the first 15 who sign
up. The sign up sheet will be on the bulletin boards in Wayne Gardens
East and West building. Snacks will unfortunately not be served at this
time as it is impossible to wear a mask and eat at the same time but
please feel free to bring birthday cards as in previous birthday and bin-
gos. We encourage you to use your own pen to sign the sign up sheet.
BINGO prizes will still be welcomed if you bring them. Looking forward to
seeing you there!
