I re- alize our nation has many flaws and much in which to improve. With that said, I believe we are a great nation, blessed by God. Not because we deserve it, but by Gods grace. We are told that when much is given, much is required. As we celebrate our nations birth this July 4, may each of us take the opportunity to give thanks for blessings received, pray that we would yield to Gods guidance and commit ourselves to the course of love and truth. May God continue to shed his grace on America for our sake and his glory. Have a happy and safe 4 th of July. During these summer months, I encourage you to take the opportunity to play. That might mean traveling to a distant state, another country, or just a weekend out of town. When the weather allows, take time to enjoy Gods crea- tion by enjoying a family picnic, hiking in the woods, taking a dip in the pool or playing a round of golf. Summer, at least in thought, is a time to slow down a bit, take a breath and refresh ourselves. Whatever that looks like for you, I pray that you will maketime to enjoy summer with family and friends. I want to thank Silas Light and Dave Klinefelter for their years of service in helping to count Sunday offerings. Their help has been much appreciated. Pastor’s Note . . . I recently heard a presentation about the American flag. As I listened to our flag’s development and place in history, it moved my heart to give thanks. I re-alize our nation has many flaws and much in which to improve. With that said, I believe we are a great nation, blessed by God. Not because we deserve it, but by God’s grace. Summer, at least in thought, is a time to slow down a bit, take a breath and refresh ourselves. Whatever that looks like for you, I pray that you will “make” time to enjoy summer with family and friends. I want to thank Silas Light and Dave Klinefelter for their years of service in helping to count Sunday offerings. Their help has been much appreciated. I also want to thank those who have assisted Silas and Dave along the way and those who are new to the counting teams. Coming Soon -

Christmas in August for community school children!

Stay tuned for more info in a few weeks!

Remember summer giving

Summer is here! Time for cookouts, ball games, swimming, lazy days, and vacations to name a few. But did you know that summer is also the time where church giving dips a little bit? The Finance Committee thanks you for your continued financial sup-port and asks that you remember to continue to do so during this sum-mer. Remember—Giving is worship, giving back to the one who first gave.

Thank You - I just wanted to thank the church for honoring me during the church service as well as the gift. In August I will attend KCC for 2 years to study respiratory thera-py. Thank you to the whole church family for making me feel so welcomed! Love, Emily Bunting

A Prayer for

Liberty

Lord Jesus, thou who art the way, the truth and the life; hear us as we pray for the truth that shall make all free. Teach us that liberty is not only to be loved but also to be lived. Liberty is too precious a thing to be buried in books. It costs too much to be hoarded. Help us see that our liberty is not the right to do as we please, but the opportunity to please to do what is right. —Peter Marshall, before the U.S. Senate

4th

of July Parade

July 4th offers us a great opportunity to share God’s love with our community. Plan to join us as we participate in Watseka’s 4

th of July parade.

Walkers are needed as well as individuals to ride the float in costume. If you are interested in being a part of this year’s church’s entry, please contact Rhonda Leitz for more information at: 815-471-5331. You are encouraged to wear your Watseka FUMC t-shirt.

Radio Ministry Broadcast Change Starting July 1, all church programing currently

broadcast Sundays on WGFA will be heard on 1360AM and 96.9FM. But, because 1360AM signs off at 6 p.m. our ministry broadcast will only be heard on 96.9 FM. WGFA will be broad-casting music on Sundays dur-ing those time slots after July 1. You can also hear churches’

programing on www.wibkradio.com. The cost of broadcasting our services will remain the same. We are grateful to the Iroquois County Broadcasting Co. for not raising their rates for over 20 years. This has been a great blessing to our church and others.

Coordinator Needed for our

5th

Sunday Fellowship Ministry

We are in need of a coordinator for our 5

th Sunday fellowship minis-

try. The primary responsibility would be lining up groups to do the breakfast (Choir, UMW, Sunday School Class, Church Council, etc.). Fifth Sundays happen four times a year. If you would be interested in serving in this posi-tion, please contact Pastor Bob. We don’t want to lose this “enjoyable fel-lowship ministry.”

UMW Report -

Spring Rummage Sale

The Spring Rummage Sale was a big success making over $2100. Thank you to everyone who helped set up, worked the sale, or helped after the sale. A huge shout-out to the rummage sale committee this year: Di-ann Peabody, DeDe Yenerich, Karen Sutfin, Brooke Storm, and Debby Sapp. These ladies did a tremen-dous job! Thank you all so much for all of your hard work! Mother-Daughter Dinner

Our annual Mother-Daughter Potluck Dinner was held on May 9. There were about 65 mothers and daughters in attendance. The theme for this year's dinner was "Hats Off to Moms!" There was a cute photo booth set up, and lots of hats for props, we played a couple games and gave away a bunch of prizes. Entertainment for the evening was provided by Jayne Henricks, Kena Clark, and Mendi Wolfe. What great singing! Thank you to Carol Drew for securing them for the evening! A big thank you to all of the ladies who served on the planning committee: Jessica Fehland, Helen Gerber, Hannah Mitchello, Kim Onnen, and Allison Naese. What a great evening! A wonderful time was had by all in attendance.

Food Pantry Update - Two students attending KCC have recently volun-teered at the Food Pantry in order to report how the pan-try operates, the history, and the purpose along with ac-tually doing various jobs. The Illinois Indian RV Club visited once again on June 29 and helped date, package, and put away inven-tory. Along with working, they also donated items and monetary gifts. This has become an annual event and very much appreciated. During the month of May we served 134 families—320 were adults and 126 were children. The special items for donation in July, are canned vegetables—we are especially low on tomatoes. The Eastern Illinois Foodbank delivery is Tuesday, July 3 at 8 a.m., and we will return back from the Mid-west Foodbank around 11 a.m. on Friday, July 13 (week later because of the holiday). All volunteers are welcome! Special thanks go out to all who donate—items and/or money. The pantry was the recipient of a $500 gift from the Elks Club in June! Individuals, churches, organi-zations, and trust funds are so much a part of keeping our Food Pantry operating so we, in turn, can be a ser-vice to the community.

Recycling Date Approaches -

The next collection of recyclable items will be sent during July/August 2018. If you have items to send—ink jet and toner cartridges—they may be placed in the cardboard box in the hallway by the church office (under the stairway to the balcony). Questions? Contact Diann Peabody at 815-683-1004. Thank you for helping to keep the Earth clean and green!

In Memory – Dorothy M. Geddes, 93, formerly of Watseka on Thursday, June 14 in Hoopeston. She was born on June 26, 1924 in Wapakoneta, OH, the daughter of Eylar and Ethel (Stoltey) Brunskill. Dorothy married Charles Ged-des of Milford on October 28, 1951 in Reddick, IL. He preceded her in death in 1998. She is survived by her children Robert (Becky) Ged-des of Hoopeston, Richard (Melinda) Geddes of Colora-do Springs, Co., and Barbara (David) McCann of Clifton Park, NY., and several grandchildren. Dorothy taught school for 28 years including Home Economics at Milford Township High School, 3rd grade at Milford Grade School, and finally 2nd grade at Nettie Davis in Watseka.
