WHAT IS QUEST MOBILE?
• A new student interface to Quest that launched in mid-November, 2014
• This new interface simplifies and modernizes existing functionality for usage on smartphones and tablets
• Android, Apple, and Blackberry-based mobile devices are supported
#watitis2014
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS FOR STUDENTS?• Students can easily perform core Quest functionality on
personal mobile devices in a secure manner
• 47 pages have been mobilized, providing the ability to:
view grades, class schedules
add, drop, and swap classes
view and update CEL exam center information
search for classes
view and update personal information
upload citizenship documentation
view program and advisor information
register for a GO pass

WHAT IS THE IMPACT ON STUDENTS?• Students will automatically receive the mobile
rendering using the existing Quest URL when accessing Quest on a mobile device
• A student’s Quest Mobile session will expire after 10 minutes of inactivity – to reduce the risk of unauthorized access on a lost or stolen device
• The Quest full site version will also be accessible via the “Full site” link on the Quest Mobile login page
#watitis2014
WHAT IS THE IMPACT ON EVERYONE ELSE?
• The initial phase has been focused on the student experience
• Others (such as applicants, alumni, and faculty) will receive this message upon login

Enhancement and fix requests to reduce/rearrange UI elements or to adjust formattingScope expanded to include additional pages – like Citizenship Document Upload, GO Pass and the Advisor and Program pages
#watitis2014
STUDENT TESTERS
• A combination of 15 grad and undergrad students from across various faculties
• 1 week of directed testingStudents were supplied with a test script to ensure all pages were covered
• Feedback was also collected
#watitis2014
STUDENT TESTER FEEDBACK
• Very simple, easy. Any student should be able to use it with ease.
• I like the black and gold.
• Can’t wait to start using this!
• Great! Much better than fighting with the desktop version of Quest on my phone.
• Easier to use than Learn Mobile.

LESSONS LEARNED
• Executing the communication plan requires a lot of coordination and preparation
Key messages simplified communication and ensured a common message across campus
• Most of the implementation effort was about improving the usability of the mobile rendering
• Custom pages require more attention• GreyHeller is very responsive to work with and has amazing
UI engineers• There is an unawareness of what is available in Quest
Searching for a Monday class
Future dated addresses
Emergency contacts
#watitis2014
CHALLENGES
• Personal devices were used for testingHard to find representative devices of various form factors and operating systems
• Campus WiFi is extremely poor in some administrative areas
• NavigationWaterloo’s customization impacted mobile testing
• Parallel Quest projectsBundle upgrade
Decustomization of Student Center
