SNORKELLING “ON THE ROCK”

Zanzibar is home to beautiful corals and marine life and some of it is very accessible during a snorkelling trip nearby the hotel. This half-day excursion starts at Dongwe village, sailing in a local dhow toward the Blue Lagoon bay. With option to finish the snorkelling trip at the famous and unique restaurant “The Rock”.

Explore the Paje lagoon in our own Zanzibar White Sand Nglawa, a local boat traditionally used by fish-ermen in Zanzibar. The sailing trip starts and ends on the beach facing the resort and will take you all along the lagoon, with snacks and refreshments on a board.

SEAWEED CENTRE VISIT

Located in Paje, this centre creates the opportunity for women seaweed farmers to improve their standard of living and to engage the local community. You will be first able to observe how women harvest their seaweed and then to gain insight in the processing centre and factory located in the village. You will see how the seaweed gets transformed into desirable beauty products like organic soaps and essential oils.

Good to know: You can purchase seaweed cosmetics during the visit, or at the hotel’s boutique. Kindly note that the farm is open according to the tides.

Zanzibar’s second name is the Spice Island, earned thanks to its plethora of spices, notably cloves, which made the island famous. JOZANI FOREST

Just 15 minutes drive away, the Jozani National Park boasts with wildlife. The famous and endemic Colobus monkeys as well as Blue Vervet monkeys can be observed, you will also have a chance to learn about the indigenous plants and trees (notably used in traditional medicine) during a short forest walk with a guide. Finally, you will uncover the magical world of the Zanzibari mangroves while walking along the wooden trail.

SEA TURTLE SANCTUARY

The Turtle Sanctuary is located near Jozani forest. In three large pools, you will be able to observe sea turtlers and fish-farming, side by side. The conservation area of Jozani was established in the 1960s and hosts the larg-est population of Red Colubus monkeys, a playful, rare and endemic species to Zanzi-bar, as well as blue monkeys and a large range of flora and fauna. Located just about half an hour drive from Zanzibar White Sand Luxury Villas & Spa, Jozani Forest is an excellent outing area to move away from our white sandy beaches and cool down in the shades of the exotic trees of the Jozani Forest.

A visit at Jozani Forest includes a walk through the forest and through the man-grove forest – monkey sightings are very popular.
