    ABOUT OUR TOWNClarksville is located in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. Ab

    7 miles north of the North Carolina border, approximately

    hour north of Raleigh, Durham and Research Triangle Pa

    about 90 minutes southwest of Richmond, or 3 hours west

    Norfolk/Virginia Beach. Clarksville was built on three ribluffs on the Roanoke River in an area which had been sett

    by the Occoneechee Indians from 1250 to 1676. The town w

    incorporated in 1818 and was named after Clark Royst

    owner of the site of the village. Clarksville has the oldest co

    tinuous flue-cured-tobacco market in the world, and wa

    manufacturing center for processing tobacco and exporting i

    Europe until the business was destroyed during the Americ

    Civil War. The population in Clarksville is about 18
