What is watercolor?• Pigment suspended in a water-soluble

vehicle (fluid...not a car)

• Consists of four basic ingredients: pigment, Arabic gum (binder), glycerin (alters viscosity), solvent (water)

• Watercolors are usually transparent and can be layered to create rich complex colors

Necessary Tools• Tubes of watercolor

• Brushes of various sizes and shapes

• Paper towel for blotting and drying brush

• Water basin for rinsing brush

• Plastic palette for mixing colors
