BIOLOGICAL WASTEWATER TREATMENT
BIOTIM® ACTIVATED SLUDGE WASTEWATER TREATMENTThe BIOTIM® Activated Sludge Wastewater treatment system is Waterleau’s conventional aerobic sewage treatment technology including every treatment step in an integrated and turn-key biological wastewater treatment system: from coarse screening at the water intake to tertiary treatment and reuse of the purified water.
In the BIOTIM® Activated Sludge Wastewater treatment design, the accumulation and regeneration phase of the biological treatment process take place in an activated sludge reactor tank connected to a separated sedimentation tank. In contrast, in our LUCAS® Municipal compact design, the three phases of biological treatment are alternated in a series of identical tanks, each capable of performing accumulation, regeneration and sedimentation.

BIOLOGICAL WASTEWATER TREATMENT
LUCAS® MOVING BED BIO REACTOR (MBBR)The LUCAS® Moving Bed Bioreactor (MBBR) is a biofilm variation of the activated sludge wastewater treatment process and Waterleau’s solution for the treatment of high-strength wastewater, or for situations where the available treatment plot size is limited. Implementing MMBR in existing plants is a cost-effective way to increase both capacity as well as effluent quality without additional footprint expansion.
In the LUCAS® Moving Bed Bioreactor, the biological treatment process is stimulated by introducing a more robust microbial environment to breakdown the nutrients. A moving media, typically a floating plastic substrate colonized by a community of bacteria (biofilm) is introduced in the reactor. These bio-carriers circulate with the aeration in a random motion, ensuring excellent oxygen and substrate transfer to the biomass, enhancing biological nitrogen removal, and improving effluent quality.
FEATURES
Polyethylene carriers with biofilm circulate in reactor tank
Type of bio-carrier depends on influent and plant design
Oxygen and circulation by diffused or jet aeration
Screens prevent media carriers from flowing out of tank
ADVANTAGES
Higher specific activity allows smaller tanks
 Increase capacity of existing plants
Multiple MBBR with different carriers for specific treatment
 Filling degree of carriers adjustable
 Biofilm reactors or hybrid reactors
 A combination with BIOTIM® and LUCAS® designs

The ATLANTIS® MBR technology is well-suited for retrofitting, capacity expansion and enhanced elimination performance of existing wastewater treatment facilities.
In an ATLANTIS® MBR, submerged hollow fiber membranes seperate sludge from the biologically purified wastewater. The membranes in the bioreactor are kept clean by means of an efficient coarse bubble aeration, which ensures a good sludge management in the membrane module and guarantees turbulent conditions at the membrane surface.
