By evaporation of the pure water only, the amount of Total Dissolved Solids in the boilerwater will highly increase, resulting in corrosion, sedimentation and scale build-up. Scaling of hardness salts in the boiler will create decreased heat transfer (lower boiler efficiency) and under deposit corrosion. By scaling, the boiler tubes can burst due to overheating. Corrosion can occur by a high amount of chlorides in the boiler, formed by a too high concentration factor (cycles). A much found problem is oxygen corrosion (pitting). To protect the boiler from all above stated problems, boilerwatertreatment is applied. Boilerwatertreatment consists of mechanical and chemical watertreatment as, pretreatment of make-up water (softening, degassing) and the dosage of boilerwatertreatmentproducts. The boilerwatertreatmentproducts take care of scavenging dissolved oxygen, prevention from scaling, dispersion solids, prevention from carry-over, corrosion inhibition, and neutralization of volatile acidic components. For boiler water systems running on softened make-up water, in most cases Aquatreat 650 can be applied to treat the complete water and steam system. Aquatreat 650 is used in boilers from 0,5 up to 40 bars. The technology of Aquatreat 650 is based on a classic sulfite/phosphate mix, completed with the most modern polymer technology. The condensate treatment is based on ammonium salts. Aquatreat 650 is a “One Shot” Boiler Water Treatment Product that protects against: corrosion inhibition in the boiler by a mix of phosphates/phosphonates and by oxygen scavenging (catalyzed sulfite), deposit formation in the boiler by disrupting crystal growth (poly-acrylates) and dispersing (phosphonates and polymers) of hardness salts, iron-oxides en silicates, corrosion in steam and condensate systems, by the elimination of carbon dioxide, excessive foaming (carry-over) in the boiler (anti-foam component). Aquatreat 650 will slowly clean the boiler from old deposits, even consisting silicates. All components of Aquatreat 650 are safe for systems where the produced steam has direct contact with food, according to the FDA regulations. Aquatreat 650 is controlled by checking the Sulfite surplus in the boilerwater. The surplus has to be between 30 and 60 ppm (mg/l). The needed amount of Aquatreat 650 varies depending on the boiler and steam system design and the quality and temperature of the make-up water. The amount to be dosed will be 10 to 200 gram per m 3 , based on the boiler feed-water flow. For boiler systems without a deaerator and/or discontinuous used systems STARTREAT 3 is the product to be used. STARTREAT 3 is an all-in-one boilerwatertreatmentproduct based on neutralized organic acids, corrosion inhibitors and dispersants, to control scale and sludge formation. Due to a combination of oxygen scavenging, corrosion inhibition and by the formation of an Iron/ tannate film, the boiler will be well protected against corrosion. The product is suitable for boilers on softened make-up water, with good natural alkalinity. Even with low hot well temperatures the product takes care of full corrosion protection.
