Equipment Required A sample of meters for testing Shifting spanner x2 Pressure inducing hand pump with a gauge attached An elbow fitted to a ball valve Fresh water supply A camera Method 1. Gather all samples to be tested and record their serial numbers, name, the company that submitted the meters and take pictures of each meter before testing. 2. Begin by preparing the hand pump contraption by filling the pump reservoir with water. 3. We can now start testing the water meters. Attach the hand pump to the upstream side of the water meter and the elbow fitted to a ball valve to the downstream side of the water meter. 4. Start pumping while the ball valve is opened completely to allow the water meter to be rid of all air inside the meter and only be filled with water. 5. Once you are satisfied that there is no air in the water meter close the ball valve completely to ensure nothing passes through it. 6. Pump until the internal pressure gauge on the hand pump reads 4.8 bars. 7. Makes sure to take pictures of the meters after the test. 8. Repeat steps 2-7 until all meters are tested.

Water Meter Pressure Testing

AimThe aim of this test was to determine whether or not a batch of meters would be able to withstand the desired pressure subjected to it.

Equipment Required A sample of meters for testing Shifting spanner x2 Pressure inducing hand pump with a gauge attached An elbow fitted to a ball valve Fresh water supply A camera

Method 1. Gather all samples to be tested and record their serial numbers, name, the company that

submitted the meters and take pictures of each meter before testing.2. Begin by preparing the hand pump contraption by filling the pump reservoir with water.3. We can now start testing the water meters. Attach the hand pump to the upstream side of the

water meter and the elbow fitted to a ball valve to the downstream side of the water meter.4. Start pumping while the ball valve is opened completely to allow the water meter to be rid of all

air inside the meter and only be filled with water.5. Once you are satisfied that there is no air in the water meter close the ball valve completely to

ensure nothing passes through it.6. Pump until the internal pressure gauge on the hand pump reads 4.8 bars.7. Makes sure to take pictures of the meters after the test.8. Repeat steps 2-7 until all meters are tested.

The Following Meters Submitted by the tenderers failed the test;

PPD Engineering, Hibred Meters, 110040972 – The thread on the downstream side failed PPD Engineering, Hibred Meters, 110024928 – There was a crack on the circumference of the

upstream side of the meter Dinonex, Amanzi Meters, 15A014676 – There was a crack diagonally across the dial towards the

underside of the meter
