The water cycle is the continuous movement of water between land atmosphere and oceans.

Evaporation is the process by which water changes from a liquid to a gas or vapor.

Transpiration is the process by which moisture is carried through plants from roots to small pores on the underside of leaves, where it changes to vapor and is

released to the atmosphere.

Earth’s water is balanced because the amount of precipitation is equal to amount of

evapotranspiration and runoff.

Desalination/distillation is one of mankind's earliest forms of water treatment, and it is still a popular treatment solution throughout the world today. In ancient times, many civilizations used this process on their

ships to convert sea water into drinking water.

If an aquifer has high porosity, it will have high permeability

The deepest zone of an aquifer is the zone of saturation.

Water passes quickly through rock that is highly permeable. As the water table’s gradient increases, the velocity of the

water that runs through the aquifer increases.

If the rock is not permeable enough, Sometimes an ordinary well will run dry and

not have groundwater flow freely into it.

Because the water is under pressure water will quickly flow through an artesian well.

Hot groundwater (heated by magma) that rises to the surface is a hot spring.

An aquifer is a formation, group of formations, or part of a formation that contains sufficient

saturated, permeable material to yield significant quantities of water to wells and springs.

Pesticides contaminate because they seep into groundwater and get into ground water---50% of

nation drinks from groundwater.

Sewage and fertilizers are two ways that nitrogen is introduced into our water supply.

Sometimes my drinking water looks cloudy.The cloudiness might be caused by the water in the pipes

being under a bit more pressure than the water in the glass, but is more likely due to tiny air bubbles in the water.

The USGS Water website says that these are naturally in the water in small amounts.-salt, arsenic, sulfur, or radon and iron can naturally be found in water.

The USGS uses many pieces of equipment, both mechanical and electronic in order to measure water quality.
