Waste to Energy is becoming an attractive technology in the energy market in Australia due to increasing land fill levies and improved technology. A number of projects are under consideration in Western Australia but they still face challenges. This is an opportunity to find out what makes Waste to Energy projects stack up? We have invited two leaders in the Waste to Energy sector to share their views and the opportunities. Guest speakers Edmund Fleck Edmund is Managing Director of the German Waste to Energy supplier Martin GmbH. They own several grate technologies. Martin and partners have supplied this technology to more than 400 plants worldwide. Edmund Fleck is also Director of Martin Biopower Pty Ltd, a joint venture, based in Perth. He has a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, and has been active in the field of waste incineration (municipal solid and hazardous waste) in various functions and companies since 1990 before joining Martin GmbH in 2002. Brian Lloyd Brian is New Energy Corporation’s Project Manager responsible for the delivery of the two Materials Recovery and Waste to Energy plants that New Energy is developing in Western Australia. Brian has over 30 years’ experience in engineering, project and general management roles across industries varying from food to offshore oil and gas production. Brian has focused on the waste industry for the last 8 years and was a driving force in the delivery on the Lancashire Waste Project including design, construction, commissioning and operations. The plant consists of two 300,000 TPA MBT plants for processing waste from the Lancashire County Council and other environs in the UK. A consistent theme in Brian’s career has been the development and commercialisation of new technologies across industries and a desire to contribute to the environment.
