The WTN is the main method by which persons in the waste chain can show that they are conforming with the Duty Of Care. They need to be kept for a minimum of 2 years. The WTN must contain: A description of the waste: 1Lists of Waste code – LOW code. 2How it is contained How much waste is being transferred Details of the current holder of the waste: Name and address Evidence of the authorisation to hold the waste ie. Environmental permit number Exemption details Registered Waste Carrier’s number Details of the receiver of the waste: Environmental permit number Exemption details Registered Waste Carrier’s number Details of transfer: Address of transfer or collection point Date of transfer Signature of parties to transfer. Specialist advice should be sought from your waste management contractor if you manage hazardous waste.

The Waste(England and Wales) Regulations 2011 which came into force on the 28th March 2011. As a producer of waste you will be required to “apply the new “Waste Hierarchy” before disposal.

What does Waste Hierarchy mean?

Presenter
Presentation Notes
Recently a common tool for the desirable way to manage waste in catagories is the waste hierarchy – I’m sure some mgt consultant was paid a lot of money to come up with this but there you go. I think it is actually quite a useful tool – for businesses to follow, and includes things I’m sure you are familiar with: Slowly go through Actions that are further up the hierarchy are better environmental options are often provide the most cost effective solutions. In all business sectors the advise on managing waste places emphasis on elimination and reduction at source. The bottom line is landfill – once the most common route for waste is now well known as an unsustainable route which produce s carbon dioxide therefore there is lot of government led impatus to reduce this

Practical ImprovementsReduce your landfill waste by implementing recycling schemes• Obtain advise from your waste management provider• Dry Mixed Recycling Bins• Food Waste Recycling Bins

Reduce the frequency of waste collections• Compact waste• Bale recyclables

• Remove waste bins from under the desk – centralised points in the office

• Ensure you segregate hazardous waste from non -hazardous waste streams

• Align your procurement of materials that enter the waste stream

Presenter
Presentation Notes
The most straight forward way to reduce your waste costs is to divert waste from landfill – do this by implementing recycling routes for your wastes. Speak to the your waste provider to see what they offer in you r area For example at Hills we offer the red top recycler..... Reuse resourses – print double sided as standard re use as scrap paper The landfill directive prevented the disposal of hazardous waste and non hazardous waste – therefore it is important to ensure you are not mixing then together on your site – as by doing so the entire load will be classed as hazardous waste which will dramatically increase your waste disposal costs. Work with your suppliers of materials that enter the waste stream – are they recyclable are ther recyclable alternatives, can you elimate some packaging waste or is returnable packaging an option.
